"The Colville Tribe is running the purse seine for two reasons, to collect Chinook Brood for the hatchery, and to harvest up to 10% of the Sockeye. The Sockeye number is big this year, and they probably won't come close to catching 34,000, but that is the harvest agreement with WDFW. As for Chinook, they only keep wild fish for brood, once they reach that number, all wild fish are released (only Tribe in the state that can say that). Bear in mind, without the Tribe's hatchery, there would be far less Chinook for us to catch."
Thanks for the thoughtful and factual insight into this, instead of the usual indian bashing that some of our jealous members love to rail against.
