F150 Grew Up Today!
« on: September 04, 2020, 09:34:27 PM »
Well the wife and I traded in our 2015 F150 EcoBoost today. Absolutely loved the truck and will miss driving it every day, it was just a bit too light to safely haul our 24’ enclosed trailer and camaro. After searching for “the truck” we found one that was a bit newer than I was expecting her to be OK with(price) and that checked all of the boxes. Went back to the full size diesel side of life with a 2018 Ram. Doesn’t drive near as nice as the Ford did, and doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles it had, but it will do what we need it to a lot safer and more comfortably than the F150. Just about cried when we left the dealership without the Ford, but it was for the best. Hopefully it was worth it!

Nice.

I'm sure you'll be way happier towing with that.

Need to get the sleeping quarters done in the trailer this weekend and then we will load the car up and see how she does. I have high hopes! I know it won’t know the boat is behind it. That might get tested Monday!

What did you have to give for the Cummins? Been looking for 6 months now and can’t believe the truck prices right now

$45k. Was 3K under blue book and seemed like a fair price considering the other trucks we’ve looked at lately. Lower miles (even than some the same year)and newer than most others we were looking at, for about the same money. Had them do a trans service, oil change, and order new tires on their dime, so saved me about 1K in things I would have wanted done soon.

How heavy was the trailer and car? An F150 should tow that no problem.

The ford probably pulled it fine, it just wandered a bit on bumpy roads or in the wind I would guess. Pulling my 20 ft travel trailer with my 08 1500 chevy is much more noticeable then with my old 95 Ford f-250. LOT more power with the chevy but it bobs and weeves on bumpy roads and wanders enough that my wife feels uncomfortable when traveling in windy conditions. Never noticed the trailer behind the F250 except the lack of power from the dog of an engine the 5.8l ford engine is...its like shockingly underpowered....like get out and count the cylinders to make sure there is 8 of em slow.

Congrats on the new to you truck.

You did well.....you will never regret towing with a dodge.  I run a 2018 dodge 3/4 ton diesel now and had an 06 before this one.  They tow like a dream and have more power than you will ever need.

Nice truck, I'm jealous. I didn't pay a lot less than that for my 2019 OR Tacoma (with a few options).

You should probably take it out this weekend and get it dirty. Maybe get some deer blood in the bed. :chuckle:

Did you consider selling your old truck outright?  Used truck prices are crazy, I think it's a great time to make a few more grand doing it yourself.

Anyway, hopefully it gives you many happy miles.

I love my Sierra 1500 but.... I got the crap scared out of me coming from Vantage to Ellensburg, it was really windy and I got pinned between 2 Semi's going up the grade. The sudden sway broke the tires loose and the ABS lights came on, the traction control lights came on and it powered down the engine. I will be upsizing my pickup. My trailer is 35 foot tip of the tongue to the spare on the back with a 29 foot Box at @7000 lbs. I probably  have 6000-8000 miles towing it but never again with that rig. I don't want to have to wear my brown pants ever again.
