Scope trouble

So I’ve been having a hard time sighting in this new scope, leupold vx5, I wish I never got a new scope. Now it appears it’s moving on the rings, here is a pic. Anybody have input?

New rifle old rifle, did you clean screw holes and then use loctite, did you wipe down bases (remove oils/preservatives) and torque to spec, did you wipe down scope tube and rings to remove oils/preservatives and torque to spec, pic suggests front ring is very near the start of the bell flare, give it the once over again, and if you dont have an inch lb torque driver, they are reasonably priced or borrow one.  Good luck

Proper torque and loctite (blue) and it should never move in a million years.  If you did that, I would get a set of new rings.

What they said plus I'm not a fan of those weaver type mounts.  Looks like a good quality scope so Id defiantly look at the rings and bases.

Really good rings and bases are not that expensive.  I am a fan of one-piece scope bases, and here is the one I have on my Model 70 Featherweight.  At $53 it won't break the bank.

It's definitely not the scope's fault. That should be a great scope, when you get it mounted properly I bet you will love it.

These are warne rings with 4 bolts per ring, they looked way better then the leupold rings, but idk, scope looks like it moved to me

I use Warne QR steel rings and have never had a problem.

I have 4 sets.

Remount the scope, make sure everything is clean and free of oil and dirt and when the cap of the mount is installed the gap on either side of the scope has to be equal.  Cross torque in an X pattern after snugging each screw evenly first making sure the gap on either side is equal.  You are correct in that the scope has definitely moved.  Good luck

Most rings will have some sort of air gap between the halves when torqued. I’ve had several sets of warnes (vertical, not horizontal like yours), and never had a set that’s been that close together.

I would take the scope off the rifle and see if you can twist the rings on the tube.

Maybe you live close to someone on the forum that is experienced mounting scopes and has the proper tools?
