Alternatives to Honda generator

Looking at picking up a small (2000-2200 watt) generator, wondering what the next best thing to a Honda is for less money? Probably use it on our late season hunts this year to run a small heater in the trailer for the wife, looking for something reliable and quiet but don’t want to drop a grand+ incase it gets stolen or something. Anybody have one of the Dewalt 2200’s? Other recommendations?

I bought 2 of the westinghouse 2200's,the reviews have them right on track with Honda for under $500 and $600 depending when and where they are purchased.

The diff. in noise is very small. side by side a person could not tell the diff.

Any one ever have any luck with the predator generators?

The Wen and the Generac seem to come up a lot in review articles but it seems like A majority of the low to mid priced ones have enough bad reviews to make a guy nervous...

So we actually started kicking the idea around a couple weeks ago to get a small portable to go with the 5k (noisy, uses good deal of gas).  Then we had the Labor day storm and lost power for 3 days, longest ever for this location in Stevens county.  The Generac 5k worked well but the idea is the smaller portable could be much more easily deployed for those more common (but still rare) over night outages in the winter.  Idea is to fire up the small one to run fridge a couple lights and the pellet stove, then if power is still out in the morning and its going to be a while, fire off the big noisy.

That is the back ground of my search for the best option available in small portables, and for the life of myself, I keep coming back to the Honda EU2200I and know even though more expensive, I will go into it with peace of mind knowing like many many others, I have made a wise choice (I think).  I cant get past the Honda.

they are good no doubt but the price diff. between it and others needs explaining.the westinghouse has better returns for the money 13 hours of run time vs Honda's 8.1 hours at 25%.with only 1 downfall.it is 4 dba louder.

My buddy bought a Wen a few years back. Nice and quiet and seems to be working just fine. Powered his chest freezer all the way back from a moose hunt in Alaska and didn't miss a beat. His is a 2000, but another friend just bought the newest version Wen and it's a 2200.

Granted I don't think you'd ever regret the Honda. My eu3000 is 16 years old and still runs flawlessly.

is your post in regard to their decision to discontinue this model?they have been making power sources for over 100 years and will continue making the igen for many more to come.

I bought a 3500 predator about 3 years ago and so far so good.

Predator engines are great, the only question I would have is on the electronics.

I have a buddy with one of these. great bang for the buck, and Costco normally does a pretty good job of not selling junk.

That is a plus. We ran one of my Dads Honda’s last weekend to keep a small heater going for our 1 year old, it only did about 6-7 hours on a tank. I was kind of surprised since the heater only had to kick on about twice an hour for a few minutes to keep the trailer warm

No way a generator that much less than a Honda is made in the US unfortunately.

i guess they are engineered in U.S.A but manufactured in china. Honda engines are made in chin along with several other countries.

We started using the Predators for camping and work (General Contractor) two or three years ago.  My husband has always been a Honda guy, but has been very impressed with the Predator's durability and he really put these things through the wringer.  One of the 2000's will run our camp trailer, or we use two with a parallel kit if we need to run the air conditioner.  Last fall he had a 2000 running in the back of the truck powering a freezer all the way to California, where it was choppered in to a remote jobsite on the PCT.  They used 3 2000's to power the freezer full of food and all the power tools for over a month.  We use a 3500 to run multiple tools at once.  So far they've been every bit as good as the Honda's, for way less money.

There are a few inverter manufacturers in the US, but they have been fleeing overseas as well for at least 15 years.  I think the best case scenario is probably assembled in the US of global components.

There are tons of good engines these days, I would bet the inverter is responsible for most of the problems - that and ethanol fuel.

You’re right. It’s their G-force and OHVI engines that are made in Wisconsin. The OHV engine in their 2200 appears to be made else where

Yes, very good luck.  If a Honda is a 10 then predator clone is a 9.  Power trowel, log splitter, pressure washer all I put on Pred engines.  $89 on sale one time for a 6hp.  I love em.  I currently using pred 3500 inverter generator.  It does surge a little on economy mode (Ithink its a dirty fuel picky thing?) but has been good to me so far.  Very quiet n easy start or batt elect start.  I know its China but most all of em are honestly.  Have an old champion 3500w still kicking as well.
