Elk from space
« on: April 15, 2009, 09:45:46 PM »

While I was doing some scouting (Google Earth) for my upcoming Montana hunt, I'm pretty sure I have located an elk herd. I have the free version so the resolution isn't primo but..... it's about 25 or 30 animals, calves included. They are on a semi open, timbered hillside.
I've zoomed in/out, rotated, flipped... everything. Pretty sure it's elk. No antlers though!
Anyone else seen anything like that before?
Thought it was pretty cool!

Seen goats.. that is pretty cool.

its my understanding that google earth has a year delay in its images for security reasons. so those elk are probably gone

Most are at least a year old sometimes there 2 or 3. I always look for animals but I have never seen any from space that I can say for sure. Good find

I checked out a place I used to work, Blackrock, the pics for that are about 6 years behind.

I always check for interesting stuff, but have never seen any animals, at least that I know of.
Never, ever let Creed hold you baby, it will ruin it and you will have to get another.

I have found profanities carved into fields by farmers.
I've hunted almost everyday of my life, the rest have been wasted.

jager, be careful, you may prompt a new law that will require a one day waiting period to hunt, after you have flown on the web!

Yea , I should keep my mouth shut!
I wasn't actually thinking that the elk were going to be in the same spot. Thought it was pretty cool to see them though.
That sucks that the images are that old. You can't tell if something has been burned or logged or new roads or.....  :(

You can also see lots of airplanes flying around.

There was a study done using Google Earth on the magnetic alignment of cow herds. It seems they tend to stand north and south.
