49 Degrees North Early Moose
« on: September 29, 2020, 07:59:43 AM »
Hello everyone my name is Jordan and I have a 49 degrees north bull tag, I’m looking for some advise for the hunt we arrived a few days early to try and find a moose before the opener. We have been hiking gated roads all throughout Chewelah creek,Winchester creek, Tacoma creek and been up to Calispell peak but have yet to see a moose, I did most of my research on Hunting Washington forum and found a lot of good info. Are we in the right area or is there something we overlooked ? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You are looking in the right areas, just keep moving and you will see them.  Concentrate on prime time, the mid-day is pretty sparse for sightings.  As the temps cool off here pretty soon, you should start seeing them in the clearcuts and openings.

Early season is all about calling. Your in the right areas. With no snow and all the leaves you need to call and locate or get lucky and catch one on the road. They are responding good right now. Good luck with the hunt.

Thank you for the responses, we’ve been calling a lot behind gates with clear cuts and on the high open areas, and in some meadows and creeks as well. Hopefully one will show itself .

We've been hunting hard since it opened.  We've found an area with some moose but they aren't moving during the day and are not responding to our calls. Were seeing a couple bulls every night on our 1 trail cam we have out. Were not really sure what to do right now, with the warm temps and full moon.

We headed home for the week, our experience was very similar. Hopefully the weather will cool a little bit and get them moving during the day. Also the Air Force was doing survival training in the area we were in we saw about 10-15 men and women camped out in the brush and a helicopter would circle around the area in the dark and search for them. The helicopter landed in our camp twice around 10pm one night .
