Shot a weird one today. One side was an inline 4 point. The other side was normal. Still real slow here. Tons of does but no bucks chasing them (other than spikes and little forkys). This is about the biggest one I've seen. He was just eating with a group of does...

We were there the 6th to 11th. Before/After the blizzard deer were out everywhere. and the bucks were rutting hard, but most groups of does had small ones with them pushing the does. Seemed like a lot of groups had the big bucks shot already. Saw lots of small bucks cruising for does. We filled all 3 buck tags and 4 doe tags we had between three of us but didn’t see any true monsters this year. We Found one hot doe with three bucks on her and was able to fill three tags at once and let the smallest buck walk. Overall saw normal amount of deer just not the quantity of decent bucks. Here’s mine. 21 inch wide 3 point with eye guards

Been here since Monday afternoon,  rut has been non- existent,  alot of small bucks 2x2s , 3x3s , young 4s . Did see a Dark , heavy ,  tall ,  wide 26"+ , super deep forks 2x3 w/ eye guards today thought about dropping the hammer but he had that stupid 2" long 3rd point . Not nearly the number of Deer seen this year as the past 3 years  . Still have 5 days left .
sounds like the one I ended up shooting. Was it still in velvet?

I watched this deer for 3 plus hours debating on whether to attempt a stalk and try to take him. There was a couple of larger deer spotted earlier in the trip but I wasn’t able to locate either of them the next day and with the forecasted warmer temps the roads had already started to get greasy in the afternoon.  Mr. Buck finally decided to head up the ridge I was on with his does on the way to the haystacks for their nightly raid. I was able to close the deal at about 80 yards.

Huge thanks to my buddy for helping me load the deer off the hill and hang it overnight. He also used the big green beast to pull me out of the snowdrift I buried my truck in the day before.  :bash:  Congrats to all of you that were lucky enough to hunt MT this year.

Cool buck, I’d have dumped him too.

We saw a couple cactus bucks in velvet this year.

Yeah just an empty sack on him. Which is weird because he acted “rutty” seemed to be following a doe for a while and even ran off a couple smaller bucks.

Seems to be pretty common in Montana this year, not sure why though. One theory is that they literally froze their balls off?
