GF gets it done on her moose tag!!!!
« on: October 19, 2020, 12:32:14 AM »
For starters this is the second animal she has ever shot and the first was a doe as kid.  We have been practicing shooting and she has consistently hitting the target out to 200 yards with no misses.   We also owe my buddy a big thanks for getting her some hand loads set up.

First day started out as a bust I worked the night before and wasn’t able to get the bullets for her.  So no morning hunt opening day for us and then things snow balled. We made it to my buddies and he said he was waiting on a friend to show up and they will go with us for the afternoon hunt. His buddy ran into problems and didn’t make it in time.  So we go out for a couple of hours and didn’t see anything not even tracks.

Second day comes I wake her up in the morning and she admitted later on in the day she was thinking hunting wasn’t her thing if she had to get up early after a late night.  We check some spots find some rubs, tracks and moose’s pellets in a clear cut but no moose.  The walk and seeing the sign got her excited. But it’s getting mid day so I tell her let’s go home and nap. She can’t sleep because she is too excited and my nap takes to long. She lets me know because she wanted to be in the spot at a certain time.

We get up in the woods to the spot, it’s starting to get towards the end of the day and we are checking the last clear cut out.  And then I see it this nice bull in the tree line.  I get out and start trotting up to the last place we seen it and she is trying to keep up. We see him again with its shoulder facing us and it’s head behind a tree. I ask if she could get a shot and she tells me no and just like that the bull is gone. We continue to move up and get to the edge of the clear cut and there he is walking through.  I get her set up and the bull moves and she can’t get a shot. Move her again to another spot and she gets setup up and the bull starts walking. I told her get ready I am going to stop him in a couple of steps.  Like a pro she takes a deep breath and a calm comes over her.  I whistle and the bull stops she takes aim and fires.  The bull instantly drops and hits the ground and we reload.  He doesn’t get up so we start walking over to him to make sure he was down for good.

We get there and the biggest smile came over her face at the size of him.  I was so proud of her and the work she put in. It took us four and a half hours to quarter and load him out. Her watch says we walked six miles with all of the trips back and fourth. She did a great job and told me she isn't going to let me shoot anymore. Lol

That’s awesome! Nicely done!
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
