Big THANK YOU to good friends!!! Daughters Deer
« on: November 02, 2020, 09:34:27 AM »
Wasn't planning to share anything this year as I've been accused multiple times by multiple members this year of being a social media whore and a glory seeker, which I don't understand because I don't have any social media besides huntwa :dunno:, but as always I feel I need to give credit where credit is due and give a huge public thanks to my friends who are always there to "lend me a hand"  :chuckle: (see what I did there  :chuckle:)

Sept 27th I broke the daylights out of my hand. Multiple fractures and dislocations. Surgery and 3 exposed pins has left my hand completely useless. Having your season ruined is bad enough but having your kids hunts torched is the worst. Addison was supposed to hunt ID, MT, and a WA doe tag. MT and ID were obviously off the table but because of the generosity of others the doe tag was on!

As always we do a lot of shooting in the Blanchard house. Addison is 10 years old and is quite proficient with her little 7mm-08 and has built some street cred with the regulars out at our local rifle range.  Last trip out she ran all the plates at 300 yards with first round impacts. Anyone who shoots out there knows how small that last one is  :chuckle:  we supplement range days with lots of dry fire reps on the deer pictures we tape to the dishwasher.

My first thank you goes out to elkburger who let us go walk around on his property. Steve has been so incredibly generous to my daughter and my nephew over the years and I cannot thank him enough.

So day of the hunt we met up with JonathanS and Bullblaster who unsolicited, olunteered to come help Addison because her dad is kinda worthless. We got the property just as daylight was breaking. Half mile in we spot a lone deer about 1,000 yards out. We drop below to keep our wind right and close the gap. When we get there she is gone. We moved slow, peeling back the layers of broken terrain when chris spots her. She had us pegged but due to the sun, couldn't tell what we were. Chris and Jon sprung into action getting the gun deployed and from there Addison went to work. She got behind her rifle, adjusted her position and had a round headed down range in short order. The shot was 278 yards with a hard quartering to angle. Unfortunately for the doe, it was one of the same angles we have taped to the dishwasher. She jumped, made a dash, and then crashed to a halt. With the top of her heart gone she just couldn't pack the weight.

High fives and hugs followed by pictures and knife work made for an action packed morning!

We could NOT have done this without Steve, Jon, and Chris's help. From the bottom of my heart gentlemen.....thank you.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

I hope my podcast comments many moons ago is not one you're stewing over.  That was a joke. :chuckle:
Also, sorry about your season getting screwed with your injury; I know all about that this year as well, open heart surgery end of August.

All that being said, congrats to your daughter and the gentlemen that helped!! That is amazing and it's such a catch 22 with me, I cannot wait for my 4 year old daughter to start the process, but I don't want her growing up either.

Good times dad.  Heal quick.

Man Karl!!  That hand break has to suck!  Bummer for sure especially for your hunting season.  Im sorry to hear about that!  Hopefully it will heal up soon and you can get back to 100% for next year.  Believe me, after two rotator cuff surgeries on my shoulders and a Quadricep tendon re-attachment surgery in years past, It is nice to get them all healed up.  Wishing you a quick and good recovery!

As for the hunt with your daughter, Great memories and great times for sure!!!  Keep at it!  I took two of my daughters hunting for a day with me this year and they were both pregnant!  Now that was interesting for sure!  Tell her congrats for me!!!
