Sleeping Bag Recommendation
« on: November 08, 2020, 10:49:10 AM »
I need a new sleeping bag.  Cant sleep in a mummy but need a rectangular or semi-mummy with a cotton flannel liner rated down to 0 degrees F and 6 pounds or less total weight, hopefully that won't break the bank.  Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

I bought a woodsman at Cabelas 30+ years ago. Rectangular and good to 10 I believe. Canvas outer shell. It has served well in very cold temps. Not sure they have the woodsman any longer but ones just like it and a good inventory at their stores you can handle before buying.

Assuming your are using a nice sleeping pad, I would strongly suggest you look at a quilt.  I hate mummy bags and needed a light weight solution.  My pad and quilt are amazing.  I fit comfortably, it is light weight, and keeps me warm in 0 degree weather.  I used in the back country of Idaho and have no complaints.

My quilt is made by Enlightened Equipment.

This is for a car camping situation I assume where weight won’t be a factor?

I was looking at the Kodiak Canvas ones. They look kind of awesome.

I have two of these, along with the quilt that attaches to the top of them and absolutely love them.  Very highly recommend this set up for truck camping.

Go to sportsman or  Bass pro pick out the biggest softest bag you like. 100.00 or so. On the way home stop and pick up a hot water bottle. Put the bottle rolled up in the bag. When you get to camp heat some water ,fill the bottle, throw in bag. Never be cold again.
