Fox Island boat launch
« on: November 21, 2020, 08:37:39 PM »
Hoping to get some intel on the Fox Island boat launch. Appears to be pretty rough/non-existent at low tide. Anyone familiar able to say how low is too low?

I’ve got a very light 12 foot boat that doesn’t need much to launch, but I usually fish solo so unfortunately I can’t really carry it.

Never fished MA13, but there’s not much else goin on so I’m going to give it a shot. Doesn’t look like there are a ton of launches with parking down there, and I don’t have enough boat to run down the narrows.

Which side of the island is it?  I have fished that area a lot and only thing I have seen close to a boat launch is on the west side of the island.

It looks like it’s essentially on a wide spot on the bridge from the mainland. Towhead bridge is what Google earth has it labeled as, but it’s a stone’s throw from Fox Island.

Yeah, I must have passed that spot 100 times and never noticed it.  Mainly fish the west end or south end of the island.  I launch at Pt Defiance, so cant be of much help on where to launch on the island.

Been a few years since I used it, but seems to remember it being hard pack rock. Small parking and turn around area.
As soon as you cross the bridge,  its the pull off to your right, next to the bridge.

There's one at Horsehead.  Also a launch near Pt. Fosdick near the entrance to Wollochet Bay.  Higher tides would be best at all of the ones mentioned.  Limited parking also, but probably not much of a concern this time of year.

And Joemma State Park has a decent launch not far away.

You can launch that boat at any of the launches in the south sound. Many of them run out of ramp at low tides. When I had little aluminum I’d pop it off hitch and push out on sand to launch in the low tides. Good luck and have fun.

Awesome, thanks guys. All like like good options for what I’m trying to do. Looks like parking can get tight at all those, so it’s nice to have some backup options nearby. I think some transom mount wheels may be in order.

Saw a couple fellas pulling their duck boat out this afternoon. They didn’t appear to be having any issues.
The lazy do not roast any game, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.
