Tribal council decided a week or so ago it was in the best interest of the tribe to keep it closed. They've done a pretty good job of keeping the virus off the rez and want to keep it that way.

Don't blame them really.

Only bad thing is its going to make CQ a s...show again. We always boat to the ocean from CQ anyway but the bumper boat crap at Masons got old last year.

Sorry fishgame, but that just doesn't hold water for me...  Casino's stayed open longer then anyone and opened up first.  Target market of people "most vulernable" come to their casino's and they have no problem with the general public coming to gamble, by cigs/alcohol and spend there money on the rez..

There is more to it.

I bet their commercial fishing season was off the charts this past winter, but then again, I don't know if sports fishing messes with their commercial either way.  I just want to go catch some damn bottom fish without having to come from sekiu.

I'm just relaying what I know.
The makahs and the quils don't run casino's on their land and they are the most removed tribes in washington.  Continuing to keep some separation from themselves and the rest of the world is their choice. Right, wrong of indifferent.

When it comes down to it they don't have to provide fishing access at all.

Not that I agree with everything they do, but again it's their choice.

And trophy I don't think they had an off the charts commerical season. Buyer's where covid restricted so there hasn't been allot of selling to be done as far as I know. Could be totally wrong.

If end up with room I'll through out opportunities to jump on my boat for those that are unable to run offshore from CQ. Again, I love the boat ride.

Fair point fishgame and it was a broad assumption on my part..  Will be interesting to see how the seasons are impacted everywhere overall..

Definitely..
We left a fair amount of halibut on the table last year mostly because of the reduced north coast pressure.
I think seasons will be similar as last year, but access is going to be difficult again. Not everyone has the capacity or capabilities to run 100-150 miles round-trip for salmon halibut and bottom fish...

I just want to go fishing, I'm having withdrawals..

My hope is that WDFW doesn't delay the sport hali season because Neah Bay is open.  They SHOULD open the inside fishery early like they originally planned last year, but they seem to prefer all or nothing and there hasn't been much all in the last year.  You can't say that fishing with your family is going to be any more risk than going skiing or out to dinner inside a restaurant.

Inside is proposed to open two weeks before the other area's.  Late April.

Sorry but the argument of keeping separation is BS as they come to Port Angeles and shop at Walmart all the time.

When it comes down to it they don't have to provide fishing access at all.

Yeah, it was also proposed to open last April....  It's also not in the ultra low COVID areas currently in Phase 2, it's one of those areas still in Phase 1.  :chuckle:  We'll see.

I believe hwy 112 is still closed due to a landslide by Deep Creek.  So, if you do go to CQ, have to go 113 to 112.

That's OK as it is the way I go anyway.  112 from PA is a bit squigly especially with 9K strapped on back.  If Neah bay is shut down, where does everyone stay?  It's been a few years since we went out there.

Not many places to stay, sekiu is the only place that I know of between there and neah bay.

I just made my reservations in sekui for may and June.  Definitely not looking forward to the boat ramp shenanigans.  Moorages is the next thing to check of my list.  I gotta make a few calls tomorrow.  Has anybody heard if La push is going to be open or closed?

They'll stack ya like cord wood in CQ but they can fit a fair amount of people. I'm glad I have a place up there.

Moorage is the big unknown. Mason's keeps loosing dock space with the sand bar continually growing. Saw a few boat's last year run a ground on it trying to leave the marina in a hurry.

As for Lapush they will most likely follow what the makahs are doing.  But that's a guess.

The tribes have been paid handsomely to be shutdown & will continue to do so as long as the money train keeps pulling into the station from the government. You can bet your bottom dollar, if they had casinos out here they would not have a checkpoint chicky at the entrance to let the white man in. :twocents:
