Anybody else here doing keto get a bad metal taste? It is so bad it makes it difficult to drink water because it's like sticking a bunch of coins in my mouth.

I found that I can get relief by increasing my carb intake. I need to eat at least an apple a day to keep the metal taste down. It gets really bad when I've gone for a while with very little carbs.

Nope.  just smelly pee

Read this, I have been having problems with kidney pain (I thought was my back) the last few days and decided to play internet doctor. This describes me to a tee. I don't have the metal taste, but they talk about it.   https://ketolifehacker.com/2019/05/02/keto-kidney-pain/

Thank you. That link looks to be very helpful. I have also had problems with uric acid which caused me to have gout....although that was before I started on keto. Sounds like I need more dairy and leafy vegetables. I'll give that a try and see if that helps. I drink as much water as I can....at least 90 ounces per day. Sounds like potassium and magnesium may be low thogh.

I may actually go off of keto and just do paleo. It would be easier to get potassium (i love bananas). I'm pretty close to my ideal weight anyway and paleo is pretty easy to do and easier to eat a little less meat on paleo.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Better than bananas for potassium is avocados. Bananas have too much sugar and very little potassium compared to avocados.

To be sure I'm getting plenty of electrolytes I mix 1/2 teaspoon of pink salt and 1 teaspoon of "No Salt" (potassium) in 2 liters of water, and drink it throughout the day.

Potassium Chloride. You can get it at the grocery store, or Amazon.

I wish you would have told me about that a couple months ago. I will give that a try.

There is a recipe out there for electrolyte, I seem to remember it's designed to be about the same concentration of minerals as sweat or something scientific like that:

16 oz water
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/16 tsp lite salt
1/16 tsp epsom salt

You can make enough to fill a swimming pool for $10.  It's easier to measure if you do a pitcher instead of trying to figure out what 1/16 tsp is.

That said, I think the whole electrolyte and "hydrate" thing is a bit overblown for the vast majority of people.  I know it was for me all the way through having a bad outcome at an event.

The electrolytes are mainly needed when you're fasting, and also really important when you first start a ketogenic diet, until you become fat adapted. Which means your body is burning fat for fuel instead of only glucose. I believe it takes a couple weeks to a month and after that you shouldn't need as much of the salt water. I fast every day, since I only eat one meal. So to go the 23 hours without eating it helps to drink the salt water, whenever I beging feeling hungry.

gained about 3 lbs on our week off camping, had chips and salsa, a little spaghetti and 1 small pancake.  lots of Coors light as well.  Figured I'd have gained more but after getting back to work and back to keto, lost those lbs pretty quick.
“In common with”..... not so much!!
