A tiny dab of toothpaste will make them back out in a hurry. Maybe the hydrogen peroxide? Not sure if they ‘vomit’ coming out or not.
That said, we usually, on dogs and ourselves, use tweezers, get a hold as close to the skin as possible, and just put pressure on them. No jerking or excessive squeezing. They will pop out pretty quickly without leaving mouth parts.

Light a match, blow it out, touch the tick with the hot match. It’ll extract itself.
You gotta be careful when extracting them that you don’t pop their heads off while they’re still embedded.

I think if you cover them in Vaseline they will start to suffocate and back out.

Had one a few years ago that did not want to back out with cologne or Vaseline. My wife just worked it back and forth slowly with tweezers until the little SOB finally came out. It was still red a week later and I was getting ready to go on a week long hunting trip So I went to the doctor just to have them check it out. They said it looked fine and ended up having my wife show him exactly what she did to get it out because he said he even has trouble and often has to cut it open afterward to remove pieces of the head. So moral of the story is slow and steady which ever route you go be patient

Woke up and felt something stuck to my collar bone area and yanked it out by hand...Here is what was left. Sore for days. Had kind off a bullseye around it. Sent pics to Doc..she said don't worry about it. It will go away.

Had a deer tick in my belly button and had a big bullseye. Doc said the same. No real definitive test for Lyme, so what are they going to say? Wait to see if you get really sick I guess. It would be nice if some of the crap I endure every day that is 'probably' old age could be treated and make it go away, but who knows?

For living on the wet side, I pull a surprising number of ticks off the dogs and myself.  I used to collect them for the CDC when I thought they were testing for disease.  They were just classifying type which doesn't interest me.

Grab them as close to the skin as possible and slowly twist.  Take another hold and repeat until they come out.  I prefer to use my fingers as tweazers can/will damage the tick.  I only use tweazers if they are too small to get my sandwich clamps on them.

That is the best example of tick removal I have ever seen. Couple of points. There ARE tests for Lymes disease (check out CDC web site), DO NOT put hot matches or cigarettes on the tick, the burn to the soft tissue surrounding the tick is more problematic than the bite itself. No need to put anything on the tick. They do not DRILL or Bore into the skin. Their heads DO NOT break off the mouth parts do, When removing a tick try not to crush it or break it, they can excrete contents in to the wound.

Home remedies, wives tales, misunderstands, misinterpretations can and do cause as many or more problems than the original problem.

Might be fun to start a thread about wives tales, and urban legions for treatment and management of common situations that have been proven wrong along with the correct way to manage it. Just because you mom, granddad, or whomever told you it was a good idea doesn't mean it is.

While there are tests, they are not conclusive or definitive. It is still more or less ‘If we can’t find anything else, must be that.’
It has to be VERY active for it to be found, and it hibernates or hides like other viruses do.

Unfortunately most regular GP's don't know enough about Lyme disease to accurately diagnose or treat it. If you think you might have it, you should do the research and see a specialist who is up to date on the latest testing.

Have a family member who's been battling with it for over 30 years, it's taken quite the toll on her. I don't know which doctors she's seeing at this point but I could definitely do some asking. Can't remember which podcast it was a while back but it was a lyme specialist explaining the various testing methods and why most GP's just aren't equipped to properly diagnose it. Made a lot of sense and sounds like a lot of people who have it are probably told they don't by their dr. I'm not claiming to be an expert by any means, just urging people not to take their ol' family doc's diagnosis as the final word.
