Chanterelles 2021

Found a huge area of Chanterelles Saturday, many of them look different than I am used not smooth topped but little ridges like another one was growing out of the middle of the main mushroom. Forgot to get pictures of those.

also found 3 bearshead mushrooms.  That makes 4 total lifetime  Last night we browned up a bunch of it and topped off a burger with it.

Also found several of these guys that I had never found before, and forgot my mushroom book at home.

Was pretty sure they were hedgehogs but as I had never found them before or identified I ended up just taking a picture and leaving them, in the same area I found more Chanterelles that were kind of slimed from age.

Yep that's a hedgehog 100%. Absolutely delicious. I think they have a little bit nuttier tone than a chantrelle. My whole family likes them better!

I am super careful with shrooms, have stopped by the buyer in trout lake more than once with a sample of something just to be sure along with getting forum and personal advice.  Always fun when you can add something to the list of things you know and understand.

Hedgehogs are a great choice, as nothing else looks quite like them. On a side note... I'm super jealous of the the bears head. I've only found a hericium family once, which was a lions mane on a maple tree right out in the open at point Defiance Park. All the other mushroom people must know about it, because it's always picked by the time I get to it! Doh!

I was excited to find the one in the picture, it was only my 2nd one.  Then found 2 more smaller ones in the next 45 minutes 
My real goal for the day was to try and find some matsutake which did not happen, might get out again this weekend and try again.

I found matsutake for the first time last year. Everything you read about the smell is true. you will know when you find it

Good pick today, sent some corals home with a friend for him to try, came across my first queen bolete but it was real buggy so I left it. Found my first chicken of the woods and a few chants right next to it. Excited to try the chicken!

I find a lot of these. I’ve all called them goatsbeard.

Found this guy while deer hunting in Idaho today. Now I have to figure out how to get it. It';s 20 ft up that old slick snag and no branches to climb with.

I carry a ladder in my truck on the wetside this time of year.🤣

I use a long branch to pry it off and catch it when it falls.
