Sea duck hunt

I’ve got a hold of a few of them they wont take locals out. I had a trip scheduled with one then he changed his policy and canceled. They wont take residents.

yeah that’s exactly why, I understand there logic but it also sucks for guys that just want to shoot a couple sea ducks for the wall. I’m not going to buy a boat for the bay.

Go to the San Juan Islands, Get a small( I did it in a Blue one!) boat, go on the Lea side, string the dekes out, Have a blast>>>>

Look for the Pintail Ducks (not A pintail, but the "pintail" sea-ducks)
One may get lucky IF the weather sends them south (Hariquins).

I used to take a few people a year for them but they would bring themselves back and blow up the area with all their friends. I certainly understand why guides will only take out of Staters. The game has definitely changed over the years. Hell now you can harvest one Harlequin and call yourself a guide.

I'm the kind of guy that if someone brings me to their special spot, I won't go back there unless I'm with them.  If I search and find someone's "special spot" on my own, well, then it's every man for himself.  You'd better plan on waking up early.

Lots of people have been burned by taking locals out to their sea duck spots.  It's fairly easy to shoot them, labor intensive to setup for them.  I don't bring folks out with me either, unless they leave their GPS and cell phone in the car and that's on a limited basis.

I can say this, there is a guide out of the north sound that has absolutely blown up the "blue" ducks as he calls them. Over-hunted them to the point that I would be incredibly skeptical if we get an "OTC" one a year on Harlequin after this.

All of the other guides I know refuse to take out locals due to them paying once to hunt, and then brining out every family member, friend, etc to hunt the birds.

There are a lot of great spots to hunt them if you look and spend some time scouting during season. As said previously, they're very easy to hunt once you can find them.

Yeah I know exactly who you’re talking about I had a trip booked with one of the other guides and once he found out I was from Washington he canceled the trip and used weather as his excuse and then refunded me the money instead of rescheduling it I’m not really looking for getting completely set up to do see duckhunting I just wanna get a Harley and a long tail for the wall and I would be happy it’s a long drive for me. Boats a little small for the big water I like sticking to my smaller local rivers

If/when they open harlequin again, I'd like to harvest one to say I have and it's one of the few birds I'd actually have mounted. I'm willing to leave the GPS, cell and whatever else behind plus willing to pay for fuel to help out with the cost.  What do you say boss, can I go with you?
