Bear Bones

As I was processing my bear this past fall, I was sorta thrown off by the shape of the humerus bone. It just seemed... wonky. So I kept it to boil and clean with the skull. I'm glad I did! Check it out - my guess is I wasn't the first one to shoot this bear. There are bone fragments inside the obvious cavity, which was filled with cartilage.

I bet he was pissed off for a long time! Wonder if the person tracked him and how far and long? They obviously would have known they hit him. Thanks for sharing!

I shot a bear that exact color.  It had an old shotgun "cup and flanges" slug broken up under the skin and in the backstrap.  She was 12.5 years old and the only outward sign of the slug was 3 white hairs at the entry location.

I shot a 6 year old chocolate boar in Huckleberry who appeared to have been shot 3 times before.  We found a .17 caliber air gun pellet in the fat layer, a shotgun pellet in the tenderloin, and a piece of a rifle bullet in the tendon of a ham.  I suspect he was someone's problem bear.  Now he guards my living room. LOL

There was a bear shot some time ago that I recall seeing pics of with a broadhead buried in it's spine and a large growth of bone around it. How it did hit the spinal cord or cripple it is amazing! Tough SOBs for sure.
