How to Blacktail shed hunt
« on: January 24, 2022, 12:41:39 PM »
I grew up on Whidbey island in the woods. Spent countless hours exploring and running around and never once stumbled across a blacktail shed.

This is all before I got into hunting and before I knew what a deer rub or scrape look like. Now I always keep my eye out for sheds when ever I am in the woods, but haven't really gone shed hunting.

I have a few blacktails on cam from last season and would love to find a shed from one of them. Are there any tips or tricks or is it more about luck and time spent? I know you want to look in areas the deer frequent, look around the bases of trees with rubs, etc.

Any other advice?

I am somewhat lucky in this area.  I look down at lot!

The pictures above from Lewy are exactly the type of areas where I find sheds.

To be honest, whenever I am walking in the woods, I am looking for sheds.  Always.  Then you will find some.
