I need a new kicker and want to get a Honda 9.9 with a TR1 auto, any info on where the best deal for one would be is appreciated.

Realize you want a Honda but Auburn Sports and Marine has a close out sale on Yamaha's, last years 8hp High Thrust and can install TR-1 for you...

I used a friends 9.9 and to tell you the truth, I think my new 8hp Yamaha runs so much quieter and can be idlied down a tad more than the Honda and has tremdous power.  Not trying to debate just telling what I learned..

I go to Brown's Landing in Oregon to buy all of my motors.  Saves you a ton on tax!  I only buy Yamahas but I think that they carry Hondas as well.  I saved $700 on a Yamaha 8 hp 4 stroke down there.  It is worth checking them out.

Cripe, ASM wants $2,700 for a Yamaha 9.9, that seems high :dunno:

If you go with the Yamaha I'd stick with the T-8 :twocents:

I just bought, two weeks ago a Yamaha T-8 High Thrust with 25" shaft, electric start, $1899.. from ASM...  Wonder why the 9.9 is so much more????  I tell you what I had a borrowed 9.9 for the past year and the 8is just as powerful without any noticeable differences to me???

It has more torque and doesnt have to work as hard to do the same work. I don't know about the 09 9.9's but a couple years ago you couldnt get the power trim with a 9.9 but you could and still can with the T-8.

I have the 15 hp 4 stroke Yamaha (2004) I bought the 8hp originally then upgraded that to the 15 hp. I have a 13' Smokercraft Alaskan and I wanted a little more power. This motor runs extremely quiet and trolls at around 0.5 MPH at idle. It will move the four of us and all my gear out at 28 MPH. I was amazed on how little gas it uses. I can fill my 6 gal tank and run it all year without refilling while trolling. I bought mine from Auburn Sports and Marine (not the cheapest place by any means) but they gave full value on the 8hp in trade for the 15hp. I may be wrong, but it seemed like the 15hp was quieter then the 8hp, different head maybe?

I know you and HP have around 22' boats? A T-8 should push my 21' OK then. My old 9.9 Merc struggled with pushing our boat, in a strong tide sometimes it just would not take us anywhere, but it wasn't an H.T. model.

Mine is a 22 foot  x 102 beam, wide and heavy boat, it pushes it fine.  Use it on Lake Sawyer for dorking around during no wake times...

What Polar Bear said.  I bought my kicker down in Oregon in '05 and saved a ton.

Mine is 22' also and the T-8 will push my boat up river in most of the Cowlitz, plenty of thrust for this size boat. I can help you hook up a hot water wash if you need one too ;)
