Turkey ammo shortage
« on: February 16, 2022, 01:35:47 PM »
I have been looking around and there just isn't a good supply of turkey hunting ammo right now. Have y'all been finding any?
I got enough for this spring season but I am thinking about the fall season and next year as well. Thanks, 253shotgunner

Join the waitlist. I've been happy with their waterfowl loads and turkey loads. Just get conditioned to buying pre or post season and sitting on supplies.

Bimarts in Yakima have had multiple different brands on the shelf for weeks including heavy shot magnum blend. I bought .410 tss online today for the kids.

I bought some .410 TSS loads via ammoseek (online) the other day...this site is a clearinghouse/search for other vendors, and it lists updates every time there is one (like every few minutes)...I clicked on the first company that was updated 1 min 40 seconds ago and they had 2 boxes, and I bought both...but there were lots of vendors that had some in stock (the first one was the best price too...at $30 a box plus S&H and Tax). I was leary about buying ammo online but the prices were good, and with the S&H and tax it came out to what I would have paid for it in store, (if/when they come in stock) so I figured order it now, and get it before turkey season...or wait and hope the local stores get some in stock AND I am there in time to buy some before it's all gone again...

Grade

PS. Another online option is Pendleton Ammunition out of Pendleton, Oregon, and you can call and talk to them directly...they offer TSS turkey loads, for a good price, until you add in shipping!

friend purchased 3.5" pend tss last year and they would not auto.. the roll crimp made shell mushroom enough to hang in chamber.. dont think this is norm for them and they wanted to make it right for guy but i dont know how that all played out..... apex will have ammo back in stock early to mid may as well... filling vendors orders right now and NWTF convention in full swing back east

Well...I bet your friend is the reason why Pendleton has a banner on their TSS page about how they improved the rolled crimp this past fall to work in all auto-loaders! I read that and thought, "that is weird"...but now it makes sense! One reason why I like the Federal TSS loads is because of their wad/cup design and uses a roll crimp with clear wad card and a special wad...they pattern very well too!

I ended up buying two boxes of Federal 3rd Degree Heavyweight TSS in 20 gauge online. I have enough to pattern my various loads to see what choke/ammo combination works best. I can't wait for Spring Turkey :)

I finally bit the bullet and bought a 5-pack from roger's Sporting Goods for $46.99 plus tax & shipping. It's practically kills me to spend that much money on shells, but this will be an experiment this season. I have lots of standard, high base 3" magnum #6 for backup.

Plenty of ammo available online. Midway has lots of options from the cheap remington turkey loads (bad reviews) to the TSS expensive stuff. Prices for ammo across the board just aren't great and I'm afraid thats the new normal.
