starter muzzy
« on: April 20, 2022, 07:44:48 AM »
looking for a starter muzzy, debating on doing muzzy this year.  i dont need anything fancy, i do like the break-action style,  any experience with the CVA wolf?  looks to be a good starter based off reviews, and muzzle-loaders.com has it for $190, or is anyone looking/willing to offload a muzzleloader from their safe?

Nothing wrong with a CVA Wolf, It is all a little bit smaller than the CVA Optima or Accura so if it fits you decently it will certainly work just fine for getting a handle on Muzzy shooting and hunting. I have a CVA Optima and absolutely love it.

The wolf seemed a little short for me as well, so I got the CVA optima and it's worked perfectly.  Very happy with my decision, but no matter what you get, I would strongly recommend adding a good peep site like a Williams.

I’ve had the wolf, optima, and the accura. I definitely prefer the optima and accura, but the wolf was functional. If you buy an optima, chances are you wouldnt buy another muzzleloader for a while. I would also recommend a peep sight. Not a fan of the factory rear sights

After you buy your rifle then buy a peeprib (https://www.eabco.net/PeepRib-Peep-Sights-for-CVA-Optima-Kodiak-Wolf-and-Accura_p_13910.html). I would personally consider this a required accessory.

That is a cool unit! And you are ready to mount that 4-12x50 scope when they are allowed on muzzies!

I have the peeprib on my CVA Accura, and it's great.  I put on a front globe sight with crosshairs.  I apply for Utah antlerless elk, and have a scope I mount on the peeprib.  Nice to put on and take off when testing new bullets, or for the out of state hunts that allow scopes.
