You’re probably right….there might be 2. Skagit is pretty much a dead river IMHO. I’ve fished it for 43 years. Ain’t what it used to be for sure.

I remember bank to bank gill nets back in the late 70’s early 80’s
I also recall locals floating hay bales
Now the tribes want the dams removed
How the f will they keep the lights on in their casinos
Guess a couple .gov funded wind farms are in order…
Meantime still raping the crab population to feed Asia

The trives had the nets in last week.  At the mouth and towards the spud barn from what I saw.  I wonder if they hit their quota already.

You’re right. Too many people here. Smallest western state with the 2nd highest in population. I think that we (all stakeholders) could do better at managing the resources though. That’s my two pennies anyway.

I struggle with this fishery. It’s throwing the dog a bone so the tribes can net. It is not a productive area or fishery for sport fishers. Sure a few will get caught but the prime area and time is now closed, where as, years past it was open.

I have no problem with tribes harvesting fish. It’s the adverse effects that’s the problem. Spring chinook commercial fisheries are destroying the wild steelhead runs. The by catch, kelts, are vital to population. Many steelhead runs recruitments are less than 1:1 and repeat spawners are what make it sustainable. JMHO
