I drew a Skokomish archery bull tag.
« on: July 20, 2022, 03:55:53 PM »
I drew the unit 636 bull tag with 15 points. I will be up there scouting a couple times before the hunt. I plan to hunt the whole season too. I am 65 years old and have limited mobility due to a worn out hip. Working on getting the hip replacement scheduled. I will delay the surgery until after the season. I have a couple friends who have offered to help me hunt and or pack one out if I can kill a bull. I also will be staying at a motel because I need oxegen when I sleep. Anyone have any information they are willing to share? Motels close by? A cabin to rent maybe? Any gung-ho hunters who live in the area willing to help a fellow hunter with the pack out if I get one?
I kind of hate to ask for help, but this is likely my best chance to kill a bull with my bow.

I live nearby and would be happy to help with a pack out. As far as motels. I would look at anything in Shelton or hoodsport. There is another thread about this tag that you should read with great info on it.

Thanks man. I appreciate your willingness to help and the info on the other thread. I will look that up for sure. I will definitely keep you in mind if I need help with packing a bull out.

Thanks for the response. Yep. I only put down one choice after looking at the archery tag options. I moved to WA 22 years ago and started applying for special permits about 15 years ago. It’s getting down to the wire for me for being able to get out there. Not getting any closer to my prime. I have killed a couple cows and a spike bull, but I always wanted to kill a good bull sometime. Last year I rehabbed my torn shoulder in time to bow hunt. I shoot a couple arrows every day to keep enough muscle tone to shoot the bow. Any tips you are willing to share with me are greatly appreciated.

I've got the same tag and will gladly help.  I'm harmless in the washington woods so I shouldn't be too busy packing out my own.  Reach out if you'd like and we can exchange contact info.  Myself and my brother can make short work of it.

Cool! I will PM you with my contact info. I will be happy to work with you so we can both have a good hunt. What I have found is, if you keep at it, things will fall into place.

I live near also and can be available to help and pack!  I can PM you my cell.  I know where one herd stays all year and it's not on the river bottom.

When I had the muzzleloader tag years ago, I was able to stay at the Satsop Center.  I think it was $10/night, but it’s right near Lake Wynoochee, if you’re hunting that part of the unit.

Thanks for the tip. I checked out the thread on your hunt. It sounded like you had a good hunt, just couldn’t quite connect. Still quite a adventure, and that’s why we go. We all want to kill one, but if we don’t it’s still a good time and worth the effort. I will look into the Satsop center. Don’t know where I will focus my efforts yet. Any tips you can send me would be greatly appreciated.
