Anyone try Phelps suck er call
« on: August 26, 2022, 08:51:22 AM »
Anyone try this suck er call? What did you think? Has anyone  actually  called in a bull or cow with it Or get to observe a bull or cows reaction to the call?

I have  more than a couple of elk calls, but only a few that I like and that have preformed.

Haven't tried them but maybe he will chime in himself and let you know.  But I am sure he is out chasing bulls somewhere at this time of year.

I picked one up.  Very easy to use and the sounds it puts out are awesome.  More of a mellow nasally sound at lower volumes, but you can get some more crisp louder tones too.  Very versatile. Hands free also. Can't wait to try it out in Idaho!

I have one.
Easy to use. It's going to take some practice to find all of the pitches on it.
The only thing I can say is it's not loud and trying to make it loud only distorts the sound. It's definitely for close in work, which is fine because it's hands free. Bow or rifle in hand with the call in your mouth.

I love it, I'm going to use it to call in cats, I can make an awesome fawn bleat with it, I think it'll be a great bull coaxer too!

I picked  one up from archery  world yesterday for
the low, low price of 38.23 including tax.

So, I gather that the call is so new that no one has had any actual combat experience  on real elk with it.

agree with the comments others have made. Down to post #6 at the time of this post. It is quiet, more so than I would  have thought.  I think that's the nature  of it when you are sucking in as opposed  to blowing  out.

That being  said I have bought  and tried the external Reed calls that i could not call quiet  on they were so freaking loud.

My first impression is that if you are a finesse diaphragm user, you may not be overly impressed. But I just got this call I need to work with it more.

Stick with there mouth reeds. There hand calls imo are nothing special with a hefty price tag.

Hunted a few days on the sauk tag. Been hunting national forest and it’s thick. Been using the easy sucker as a lost calf call. Super easy to use and got within ten yards of a herd multiple times. So far it seems like the cows all want to help this lost calf. Hoping to find a bull. And will be back at it in September.

If you are new to calling and dont use a diaphragm or pallet type call, I would highly recommend this call. I actually thought is was harder to use initially because using diaphragms and reed type calls for many years I  have to consciously think about pulling air in rather than blowing out. However from a control standpoint it blows every reed style call I have ever tried out of the water. Most new users sound awesome immediately.  It wont replace my favorite mouth calls, but it will be added to the arsenal for sure.

Did the same thing last night, even tried to bugle w it, it’s possible, not the best for a bugle but it works.

I have 2 of them and sound quality is amazing. I also ordered the "mature cow" replacement reeds so i have one set with the young cow "blue" reed that comes with the call  and the 2nd set up with the mature reeds. Gives the caller a good variety of sounds in the tackle box. Also not having to fight moisture like on other external reed calls will be a huge plus .
