Olympic Bull Muzzleloader tag
« on: September 07, 2022, 02:52:17 PM »
Never did I expect this to happen, but I just got a call from the state saying that my dad and I can have the olympic muzzy tag if we choose to. It's short notice, but I think were gonna go for it! Just waiting on confirmation from my pops. Unfortunately the couple rayonier permits that we thought we would buy are all sold out now. We will be scouting both weekends before the season. Any tips are greatly appreciated, but well wished are enough!

I could be wrong, but I once heard if you pull special permits lots of those land access places will allow you a permit to fulfill your tag. Like I said I could be totally

There’s also a ranch up on the hamma hamma river near the first bridges on 101 after the duckabush heading towards hoodsport from quilcene
We talked to him years ago
Said yea we have lots of elk
But dont like bowhunters

So ask around too
Cafe in Brinnon might be a good place for intel and breakfast

I got this Bull in 95 or 96 under the Power Lines in the Mt Jupiter area during the muzzy hunt. The unit had been closed for 5 years & had just reopened to hunting. He was the herd bull & had over 30 cows w/ him. Not sure if you can still access the area now. Best of luck on your hunt & hope you kill a monster.

Go into Brinnon and talk to the owners of mckay crab and shrimp gear. They have private land access along the river and may be able to help.

I had the rifle tag around 2015, hunted it hard, and the only elk i saw were on private land, and inside city limits. And none of them were legal bulls. The biologist pointed me to Liliwaup swamp and areas around there. It was all “walk in” access, which I prefer. But I found out there was heavy tribal hunting in that area, and they didn’t walk in. If I did it again, I’d probably go to the far north end of the unit.

I hope you find a nice one!

Step once, look twice...

I must have missed your comment Sundance, thank you. I'll stop by if I can get another scouting trip in this weekend.
