How are you gonna feel when said guy downs a nice one.
Then brings all his buddy's in next year.
Honestly I do feel by your posts all the way back to starting this topic .
That you feel you have some special claim to this public land.
Otherwise why give a rats @$$.
My self if someone is hunting a public spot . I just move on to the next spot. I don't really take pictures of boot tracks.
And yes I do have spots I've hunted for 20+ years.
Elk ,deer, whatever your hunting will be back the next day, week,or after the season has closed.
In all my years of public land hunting,I have never took a picture of a boot track, licence plate,or anything to try and track another hunter.
Even if you don't lay claim to the land, your still laying claim to the animals that use that public land.
Which they are not yours to claim.
Good luck finding him.
But you might not like what you find.
Share your intell so your spot will go to crap.
Sometimes your just better off letting someone fail and they will move out your spot in no time at all. :twocents:

This belongs in the bigfoot thread...........................Irrefutable!  >:(

You bumped into some boot tracks that were bumping around in the bumping so you want to bump into the guy so he doesnt bump the elk out of the bumping, and said bumped boot track guy in the bumping is/may be lucky you don;t bump his teeth out in the bumping. And NO I have not took a bump off the bottle this AM!     :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

 :yeah:

Absolutely irrefutable   >:( >:(

Hahahaha! Isn't public land great! Everyone has a secret spot that's theirs and nobody else's! That guy screwed up my hunt! Bahahaha!

Indeed! They should by some land adjacent to public, and then throw up some chain to keep the public from the public.  ;) :chuckle:

They absolutely should. Then walk the public land a day or two before the season with a super soaker filled with Irish Spring soap and water mixed. Douse every major deer traffic area and then go sit at your side of the property and reap the rewards of public land deer pushers! It's a beautiful thing.

This thread has taught me two things:

1. Some hunters feel incredibly entitled to a public resource.

2. The Bumping unit has good enough elk hunting that folks have been hunting it for decades and might be worth checking out next year

I was thinking the same as well. We should go scout it out together. Bring
all our family and friends and just bump around in there for awhile. Hopefully we don't get our tooths bumped out

Now that you brought it up maybe we should make a whole thread on everything "bumping" where should we start?

Glad I randomly woke up and saw all this, becoming genuinely interested in bumping around in there. North or South of the lake? East or west? Devils table looks like a cool area! OK back to bed haha

Did you find any elk there? I am wanting to find a new area to hunt, sounds promising.

Since this thread is lone gone...  :chuckle: I was hunting the Umtanum area back in the 1990's and my bud and I were sitting a ridge doing some glassing for elk when we noticed a group of trees next to a small opening that leveled out.  We could see something white on 2 of the trees.  Whatever it was, it stuck out like a sore thumb, even from the far distance we were looking at it.  Curiosity got the best of us, so we made a game plan to still hunt through the timber and then hike up the back of that ridge and drop down to where the trees with the white spots on them were.

Hours later when we got there we also noticed yellow flagging/caution tape tied to some of the trees and long tails of it on the ground.  The "white spots" happened to be signs printed on paper that were slipped into a plastic sleeve and then that was slipped into a ziploc bag and stapled to the trees.  The signs read something about this spot is "saved" for "xxxxxxx" elk camp that has been camping/hunting in this exact spot since the 60's... blah, blah blah.  There were 2 leveled out spots for wall tents, holes where latrines were dug, and also behind camp in the timber was a pretty elaborate setup with a sink and and countertop where some sort of outdoor wash area or kitchen was set up.

We laughed at the thought of someone "saving" or "reserving" public land like that.  So we removed all the signs and yellow flagging tape because we always "pack out more than we pack in", and didn't want to leave all the "litter" about.

One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

I would have pulled all the flagging and garbage myself!!
These people/persons act like they have a mining claim.
