What do you folks use to attach your cameras to the trees?

I built a couple homebrews, and I built cables to help prevent them "walking off" with someone else.  Now I just need to strap them to some trees out behind the house.  I considered small ratchet tie-downs, or bungee cords, what do you guys use?

I just use the ratchet tie-downs... Sportsmans Warehouse had some camoflage ones, but they were more expensive... like $15 for 2. I don't use any kind of lock but I probably will eventually if any of them disappear!

I go to the dollar store and buy a pack that has 6 cords. It has a pair of each size....3 sizes.... and are plenty stout.

So you use bungee cords?  I was thinking about that but then I thought a ratchet strap might be better. 

Anyone else?

Outfitter uses these for all of his. He even had lightning blow up a tree that one of these was in and the camera box were okay. I think he has pics of it, I will see if he will post them up on here. These must be built pretty well to handle that.

I use bungee cords.  I would recommend bring a few different sizes with you.  The times when I only brought one cord, I found it hard finding a tree the right size to attach the camera too.

Your not a moron at all. But I use Moultrie cameras and the bungees that come with them are pretty light weight. I still use bungees but buy some that are a little stouter.

Ok guys...here is the dumb question of the day;

You place a lock on a device that is relatively delicate. These cameras aren't built very strong, even if mounted in a sturdy box, they are totally vulnerable to vandalism by someone punching in the sensors or lense etc.....

Does anyone really think that these cables or lock boxes are actually doing their job? Has anyone ever come out and found their camera still attached to a tree but it is totalled out of frustration by a would be camera thief?

Thanks for all the advice.  Like I said, I made the "security" devices at work that will deter the average human.  (Stainless 3/8" cable with 3/8" stainless tubing cut in 1/2" sections that just roll on the cable so a hack saw won't get the job done).  I think I'll go with a combination of bungees and ratchet straps.  Just got an email from the Sportsman's guide tonight about a special on camo ratchet straps.  What timing! 

My cameras are housed in Pelican cases with eye-bolts in the sides.  I will run my cable through these and around to the lock, that way they might not think to open the case and steal that actual camera out of it.

Do any of you have any exerience with "Wild View" game cameras?  They are priced less than I can build one for right now....even though they are only 2mp resolution.  Anyone?

I lost my first camera this year. It was in one of the most remote areas I had ever placed a camera. As far as security goes, I've had good luck (until recently) writing my daughters' names, Castle Rock Elementary, and their grade on my cameras. You have to REALLY want to steal a camera if you are stealing it from a little girl.

How about painting it pink with a rainbow decal, smear it with astroglide and finish it off with a bunch of bells and tinsel dangling from it?
