Klickitat beast
« on: May 29, 2009, 10:35:27 AM »
I stopped at my buddy Himnthtr's place in Bend, OR last Saturday on my way to the high desert to do some camping. We went upstairs to look at his trophy room, he had his Oryx back, it looked real good, I think he said Bucklucky did it for him(Obviously he paid to much! :chuckle:) He also had his Kodiak Goat and Goatrocks Cougar on the wall both looked real nice.
But the reason for this post goes back a few years, My buddy Jeremy and his cousin Himnthtr were wanting to go look for sheds, so Jeremy asked me if I new of a place with a recent burn to go explore, I said yes, just last year there was a big fire in Klickitat Co. west of Bickleton on Rock Cr., so down they go to look around. They go down and pull of the hwy. and start walking through the burn, about 100 yards from the road they both split up each one going around a little grassy knoll, after hiking around for awhile and not finding much they head back to the truck, at the same grassy knoll instead of going around it Himnthtr goes up on top, and low and behold there they were, a matching set of one of the best looking muley sheds I have ever seen!!! He took them to some taxidermist who stained them and put them on a wood plague, they were a few years old when he found them but no squirrels had got to them thank goodness!  He rough scored them and said he came out at 195 gross!!!! Anyway I took a picture of them and will post it later after I get my cable line fixed today, my brother ran a trencher through it!!!!!!

Sorry for the tease!!!!

Can't wait for the pics. I thought 90% or better of Rock Creek was private, most of it is the Sixprong if I'm not mistaken. There are some giant deer in that country.

I killed a nice four point in that area in 04 that was without a doubt benchleg! I saw a buck in 05 that was as heavy as the buck pictured and as tall but he was only about 20" wide

It would be a crap shoot to figure which one he was, we grew up hunting around this area and at the time I was too young to know or care what deer we were shooting. Not until I was hunting on my own did I start to recognize the difference between the deer. In our area it was a vast majority were bench deer, large bodied and a mostly black tail with normal size ears. I can't tell if you I ever saw a deer with a true muley tail on it. The biggest buck ever shot out of our camp was a 26" 3x4, most were 16-20" wide 2x3 and 3x3.

Dam!!!  I would risk a Twisted Testicle for that buck!!!!!!!!   :chuckle: :chuckle:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Beast is right!  I wonder what he looked like the following year...
