Still trying to recover from my former hunting partner’s decision turning our friendship into the looks of a tire fire from some poor unknown excuse of his.  I wish him always the best but he probably thinks differently about me so trying to find new spots but not looking good for me to get back anytime soon.

My partner & I had a great morning on the prairie today. Shooting light opened @ 7:30 & we were loading the pickup @ 9:30
Isn't that a bluebill hen in the front towards the left?

That member was posting from North Dakota, I believe, so scaup may be open there.

I’m pretty sure it’s a Scaup. I’m in SE North Dakota, we’re allowed 1 in our bag limit.

Sporty conditions but lots of willing birds made for a quick shoot.

Switched back to my 20 about 3 years ago and all my 12s sit in the safe or gopher duty. Regular 3" #4s just cream the birds to 35yds. Most are only 25. Been shooting BOSS loads for late season but haven't really noticed a need for them much. They shoot wicked good to 50yds on paper which is better than I can do on the wing.

And this is how a couple limits of ducks dissappear every week.

Had a good day trip today worked through the rain and bagged a few birds early, once the rain quit it turned into a killer afternoon shoot! Gotta love it hard to beat a day like today!

I inherited my dad's Belgium Browning 20ga. I've been tempted to take it out for a duck hunt or two. I also have a Beretta Silver Pigeon that's been begging for a duck trip. I just haven't had the gumption to get em dirty and wet, they're such nice guns.

We got out Friday & Saturday. Friday was a little slow, one gadwall, one drake mallard. We made plans to try a different spot Saturday morning. It turned out to be a great morning with a 3 man limit by 9am. Even got a pintail. It was a tremendous amount of fun with my son & Nephew. Sounded like everyone was having a good morning with lots of volleys in the distance. I want to tell you about the ammo I was shooting. When I was putting away sprinklers hoses in the back of the barn Thursday, I grabbed a basket full of dusty shotgun shells and took them in the house. I cleaned up each shell and found a good assortment of steel loads and a pair of my daughters socks when she was an infant. Wife musta got tired of looking at my ammo and tossed the shells in that basket and out to the barn close to 20 years ago. Only had one dud, good primer strike, no bang. I have ammo for a few hunts now!
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

I've some 20s that'll never see the bottom ofmy duck boat or the coastal marshes. Got a never fail SXP for rough conditions and a 3020 Stoeger for shooting 'heavy' loads in other areas. I don't like cleaning guns

Lots of birds have pushed into the area.  We shot a 5 man on Friday, 5 man on Saturday and a 3 man this morning in quick order.  The season is off to a good start.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

This weekend is looking real good. I get a daddy day with my youngest daughter coming home from college for the weekend. Gonna smash some limits in the morning then head to the Veteran's museum with dinner and a movie in town. Sending her home with a pile of marinaded duck strips and deer roasts. Life is good
