Where to find hunting mentors/etc in western wa (archery)
« on: February 02, 2024, 04:14:12 PM »
I’m a new archer who’s not really sure how to start hunting in western wa. Are there any clubs or organizations over here who help people get into hunting, or can lend gear for a cheap price? I’m also a woman so I’m cautious about finding people online because I don’t want to run into predators (not the animal kind).
I f*cking love trees

Have you taken Hunter safety? If you haven’t that’s a great first step to get some basic knowledge. Then follow on which is specifically for bow hunting would be bow hunting education that some states require. I took it even though in this state it’s not required.
As for clubs there’s archery clubs all around that you could join.

Might help to disclose a general location. If you are in the south sound there are plenty of shops, sportsman’s clubs and archery shops. The same goes for the north sound. If you’re in the Puyallup area you have GNW archery to help you get setup and Skookum archery club is there as well. Great place to get help, ask questions and make connections.

:yeah:
This is the same information I was going to post. Since Western WA covers a lot of ground a general location would help. The Tacoma Sportsman's Club has an active archery committee that welcomes ladies.

:yeah: Western WA is tall and narrow. Giving info for an archery club or mentor in Bellingham doesnt do much good if you live in Olympia.

Check out the 1st hunt foundation. They have mentors all over the state. I'm one and in Shelton. Get on their website and sign up, then reach out to a mentor. We all volunteer to help new hunters and there are several female mentors as well.

Archery club probably best bet. Probably safest to start in a group environment for you to feel comfortable or archery shop where customer service would be more 1 on 1

I'm in  Vancouver. If you're near you'd like to meet up for a beer, message me. I'm cautious about hunting with anyone I don't know because I've been screwed by people just wanting to see my honey holes.

Responding to some of these people is a good start.

Not a single response in days. It seems like someone's cruising the hunting boards for honey.  :dunno:
