I am swearing off guided fishing!
« on: June 13, 2009, 04:59:03 PM »
Apparently my jinix is so profound that even the best guides fail when they fish with me.
One guide kept losing gear on my pole only. Another guide saw people catch fish left and right but
not for me.
Then my jinix strikes all that day. The day before and day after fishing is great for all, but not on days I am
fishing. This is only a spring chinook jinix. I do fine with the ocean salmon.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

I had a Guide, he calls himself, "Fishing Rick" out of Spokane. He took $300.00 bucks from my wife and never provided a fishing trip. He cancelled three times and dispute a few phone calls never refunded a dime.

Fishing Rick sounds like our local J&L guide. he has a rap sheet a mile long of taken money and not providing trips. Likes to sell them on e-bay.

Don't give up on the guides. Allot of the guides are nothing special. They can talk a good talk and run a fancy looking boat but that  is all they are good with. There are very few good guides. If you would like I can help you find a good one for the fishery you would like.

we are sapose to have a really good fall run in SW. Wa. You might wanna give it a try!!! 6 adult limit on silvers in some rivers and I know a guide that will get them for you!!!

had a guide once, never again.

Like my buddy always tells me "There's no nookee like chinookee".  But I like "there's nohead like steelhead" better.

Good guides are great, bad guides suck.  Do some research there are plenty of good ones.

---There's good ones and bad ones. Toby Muck and Clancy Holt being at the top of the totem pole, Ive fished with Toby a bunch of times and its always been a good trip! I ran into Clancy at the dock in Kalama one time and we talked and he gave me great pointers and was just a great guy! Now on the other hand I tried to talk with a guide named lee barkie one time and He was a complete *censored* and acted like I couldn't even ask how he did that day. Even if the guy can catch fish He was a jerk, another bad experience was at the dock one time I was talking with Toby Muck and that Tight lines guide was freaking out because Toby told me the evening bite has been good, like that was a big deal. Anyways Toby, Clancy Top Notch

Hoytstaff,

Do you fish the Lewis much? what do you run for a boat. I see you live in Vancouver. I know a few good guides that live/fish in that erea.

To appease the Chinook Gods, you must do the following.

1. Lose at least 100.00 in tackle and gear.   :bash: :bash: :bash:

2. Hook yourself or a buddy at least twice

3. Fall overboard once

4. Buy overpriced, over hyped gear and watch guys fishing with 40 year old stuff out fish you for at least 1 full season.   :twocents:

Then and only then will the Chinook Gods be appeased and let you begin to HOOK, not CATCH the holy fish.

You do not want to see the list for catching them.   :bdid:

:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Went with a guide once, he told me bananas are bad luck. I had one for breakfast and didnt catch a single Chinook, everyone else did though. Atleast I caught a Sockeye, and it tasted great.

I fish it for myself from time to time, I fish the big river mostly, plenty of fish,  and more room to enjoy the view

There is the 100 hour rule, but I think that might apply only to flyfishing for steelhead.

Yep, Toby is a great guy. I've never fished with him, but have been around him at Springer Camp.

Sorry to hear about your Lee Barkie experience.  I have known Lee for years and seen him go out of his way to help people.
I was fishing with him one day and another boat had a disabled angler on board.
Lee motored over, tied one of his own rigs on the guys' rod and taught him how to fish it....Lee has really been generous and selfless in my experience.
I guess everybody can have a bad day.
