Super secret pond
« on: June 04, 2024, 07:41:00 PM »
Heading up to my cousins tomorrow on my annual geoduck trip and have the early part of the day to waste
....
Thought I'd bring my trout rod and catch a few planter trout on the way.
.
So I checked the weekly plant list.
.
There is a pond listed that received recent plants..
Only 700,  but it caught my eye..
.
I cannot find ANY references to this pond, other than plant list
.
I've googled,  I've Onxd,  I'm sending emails to both the wdfw and the hatchery that did the plant..
.
Almost wondering if it was just a swimming pool in a parking lot..
.
I have located several ponds in the area, but all on private land.
.
#1 , I didn't think they listed plants for those pools.
#2, I didn't think they listed plant for private use on the wdfw website.
#3, the name of the pond shows up in several pdf documents,  but I still cannot find it on a map!
.
.
Just to avoid any conflicts,  I have not mentioned the name.
.
It's easy to find out.
.
Wdfw weekly plant lists..
.
And that is the end of my trail..
.
I found roads that share the same name..
I have a relatively small search area..
.
But honestly...
.
I found some good places to scout for bear and deer, state land and locked gates...
But only ponds are on private land.
.
Yet the wdfw planted it...
.
It's a ghost...
.
I didn't want to ask on Facebook.
.
I'm just mystified.
..
If the wdfw plants it with "catchable" trout, shouldn't there be a place to catch them?

Some small bodies of water may have two names. One may reflect the past and no longer in use.

I’d like to help but I’m not searching 900 plus lakes
How about a county ?

Just to avoid an issue,  I will not reveal the county.
.
It's 30 days.
.
Find one in your county.

You have to differentiate between the quality of the fish, whether it's a put and take size or fry. Fry could be several hundred in a quart jar.

Again.
It is a simple search.
Only 3 places have been planted in the last 30 days in that  county.
.
Its between Chehalis and hood canal.

I believe that the property owner (timber company) allows access to certain pieces. I'd call their main office and clarify if they do or don't for that particular piece.

It's right along the road it shares the name with.
No real access unless you have a float or kayak.. there's like 50' of fishable water along the road edge..
Lots of lillies. It's narrow but long. Better fishing in the back portion.

Planters are cool, but 3-4 years are magical.
.
And this pond exhists...
Probably full of as many punkin seeds and "scrap fish" than I can eat
.
..
It's fishing.
.
I'd love to catch a trophy,  but really just want a dinner
