Who shoots a 7mm RUM
« on: June 17, 2009, 07:03:49 PM »
What do you think of the 7mm RUM?  My hunting partner loves his.  I just ordered it in the Remington Sendero.....  What do you think of it and what loads are you shooting....?

I would go with the 7mm Weatherby in a Weatherby Ultralight.  The 7mm Rum will be a good one though.  Good luck and please post you results for reloader to benefit from.  I would like to own one of the member of the 7mm family someday.

I think that will be a GREAT rifle and cartridge combination. The Sendero's are a bit on the heavy side and that will definitely dampen the recoil of that 7 RUM.

I bought the Sendero for its accuracy.  I know this calibur is capable of shooting long distances accurately with great results.  My hunting partner's gun shoots 1/2 MOA right out of the box after he found the load the gun liked.  I have heard that this calibur shoots its best at or near the max load.

I own one of the first Senderos made in 7mm ultra. At the time I had plenty of fishing money and thought the rifle was cool. And it is a cool rifle, and a cool cartridge. But it handles like a crosstie, and the load is just too much for deer if you ask me. I used to be all about blasting deer from afar, but I have left all that behind.. It ruins a helluva lotta meat, kicks unnecesarrily hard for a deer gun, and its costly to shoot. I have since then left it in AR, which says how much I think of it's usefullness. Twas I you, and I'm not, I'd buy a plain old 7 rm or a 300 wm.

I own a 7 RUM.  84.5gr of H1000 with the 180 VLD Bergers.
Pretty mild load running at 3007 fps.

I own a 7mm RUM.  It's a leftie in Model 700 LSS 26inch barrel.  It's got a Vais muzzlebreak on it.  Put a Leupold on it with Mil-dots.  A good friend helped me build up a load.  We stopped well short of a max load.  85 gr of Reloader 25 pushing 140 gr Barnes TSX....3097fps.  Plenty of punch.  I push the same number with just a 7mm Rem Mag BDL.  I know I could load it much hotter in the 7MM RUM, but.....no time or desire to do it yet.

I used to have one, a synthetic stocked winchester. Was definitely a shooter but was too much for my shoulder, might not bother you though? And like mentioned earlier, is a little expensive to shoot if you are not reloading, but everything is nowadays. It is a great flat shooting caliber!

I've heard good about the RUM but I own and prefer the 7mm STW myself.
