Western Wa Pheasants
« on: November 23, 2007, 02:16:35 PM »
I had a little time off during the week and decided the dog and I would go out and chase down some pheasants. I wasn't to sure on how it was going to turn out but the Gunner was excited to see the bird hunting box get loaded back into the truck (where he thinks it should always be). Wednesday morning we headed out to a release site not to far from my house and I was presently surprised to see that we were one of the few trucks in the parking lot, but by the time we were dressed and ready to go there were about 20 trucks and as many dogs running around. We made a beeline for the back of the release area and started hunting thinking we were safe.....Well after about 30 minutes there were hunters all around us and I thought we were caught in a war III, there were guns going off in every direction. (at one point I had to grab the dog and take cover..not joking  >:() Well after about another 30 minutes most of the hunters returned to their trucks leaving the field somewhat open. We hunted for about another hour and flushed up a hen. The dog was pretty excited about that so I decided to take him out for another hunt thanksgiving morning...dumb idea. There were twice as many hunters as before (I was at another release site though) and twice people walked up behind my dog while he was on point! and thats while I was walking up behind him. I decided to just packed him up and we headed home to eat some turkey. Hopefully this picture works, sorry about the quality it's from my phone...Be careful out there. Jordan

Which release sites were you hunting? I hunt the ones in the valley near Monroe and Carnation. They are like that on opening weekend, but much quieter later in the season, especially during the week days.

I go to Leque Island by Stanwood. The weekends are impossible but during the week when it is open it can be a lot of fun.
Hammer time!
