I have a RBros 300 win mag and absolutely love it. So does my wife

I have an Rbros 30 Nosler and it is the easiest gun I own to shoot and to take care of. Great rifle.

I personally do not own a Christensen but know people who do and they are very nice rifles as well. Just depends what you are looking for and if you want to go the extra step to get a fully custom rifle or just a very high quality rifle.

Blagg rifles out of Pendleton. Darrin is a great guy his prices are very fair, about the best you will find. Between me and family and friends. He probably has done 15/20 for our group. They all shoot incredible. My 2 main ones from him are a 30 Nosler and 6.5 stw.

Tagging along on this one.

Toying with the idea of building my own on a terminus Zeus action with quick barrel change option.   My problem / hang up…..is the same every time I start thinking about a custom…. My factory rifles for 1/4 the price, shoot just as good.

My buddy has built two off the terminus Zeus actions and they are pretty amazing rifles.

I would just start buying all the parts and then find a gunsmith to put it together. That’s what I have done for my last few builds. You can usually find deals on actions, barrels, stocks.

What's a true custom built mean to you? A factory donor rifle that gets all the fixings and a rebarrel? New stock, new action, new trigger, new barrel? $1,000 project? $10,000 project?

My idea of getting a custom built is - finding a reputable builder, call and discuss details/options, talk over his thoughts/opinions, be prepared to pay a fair amount of money for a quality tested set up. Not looking to re barrel a donor set up

Goto Preferred Barrels out of Utah
Pick a prefit carbon barrel (the 50/50 nickel looks great)
Pick your action, caliber and length.

Suggest Anti-X action (In stock at percision rifles)
Suggest 23” 300 PRC or 7 PRC
Get a Manners Prohunter stock with micro chassis from Altus or Percision

Bolt together with choice of  bottom metal.
Order Suppressor

Shoot!

I’m sure it’s been covered a ton of times on here . My main hunting rifles are Christensen's topped with NF glass , but now really considering to have a true custom built. What’s some of your go to guys for customs? And hopefully not wait a year for it

I've had builds done from numerous different gunsmiths over the years but Defensive Edge Rifles https://defensiveedge.net/  and Karl Kampfeld https://www.kampfeldcustom.com/ have been doing all my of builds for some time now and couldn't be happier.  They both have the fastest build times of anyone I have ever used, do great work, and have excellent communication.  I always suggest using someone within a reasonable driving distance of you so you can drive to their shop meet and talk to them in person at least for the first build or work you want them to do.  After that if you want more work done and they aren't really close you can ship your stuff back and forth but it's nice being able to meet them at least once before you start a build.  Defensive Edge is only about twenty five minutes away from me which makes it easy and Kampfeld is around an hour and a half which isn't quite as convenient but the first project Karl did for me I dropped my stuff off with him and we had a chance to chat face to face.  Now I ship everything to him but it's nice having that peace of mind having met him.

I used a gunsmith out of Fort Shaw Mt. for a build once where the only communication was through email I couldn't call him and he wouldn't call me.  After three years of waiting and emailing back and forth with nothing but excuse after excuse and fewer and fewer emails things came to a head and the emails became less pleasant.  I finally got my rifle but when I did it didn't even function properly.  It was a bit of a disaster and I later learned many others had the same experience but I did learn a valuable lesson out of it and looking back I've asked myself many times, what the hellll was I thinking using someone I couldn't even talk to on the phone.

If DE Rifles or Kampfeld Customs are to far from you to drive to I will 100% vouch for both of them as being top notch honest shops to work with.  One of the nice things about Defensive Edge is if you tell Shawn what bullet you intend to use he will work up a load for you with that bullet and shoot it for group at 100yds right at his shop.  The only downside I've found with DE is Shawn's equipement is only setup to cut American threads so he doesn't work on anything with metric threads like a Tikka or CZ.  Anything with metric threads I send to Karl Kampfeld.

Why do you hunt with the CA over the Rbros?

I guess it’s just the perfect hunting rifle.  Light, short, accurate.   I can shoot on the run, I can get down and make long shot.

I don’t use a sling; I’ve always carried my rifles.   I pack the CA using the NF like a handle.  Fits my hand perfectly and can pack it like that forever.

I also prefer the more traditional stock.  The vertical grip stocks just don’t swing naturally for me.  I shoot a lot of my animals off-hand/moving so that’s important to me.

I probably just need to have Travis restock my rifle.   Then it would be perfect.   I would like to be able to use Talleys, though, so I could pack my rifle the way I like.   I think his new action will allow this.
