Cold bringing in ducks!
« on: November 24, 2007, 10:38:03 PM »
I was hunting out near Quincy today for quail and pheasant and saw a lot of new ducks moving in. A lot more than even just a week ago.

Most of the ponds I saw were frozen or starting to freeze and it seemed all the open spots on the partially frozen ponds had ducks and geese in them.

I got skunked in the uplands. It looks like it would have been a good day to chase waterfowl but it felt good to see my buddy's dog work the big country.    :)

thats always cool
"Right now, I am thinking that If my grandmother was here, she would be lecturing me about how there are poor people in Africa, that would just love to have a Ruger, I would just say "Great, granny, lets just ship all the Rugers to Africa!"

Loving life in the Great Northwest one day at a time.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.

I know the west side is having a hayday with waterfowl, but here we are not getting the shooting we had last year. Everyone hunting east side please post so we can tell if numbers are getting better. I was out yesterday glassing off the hills to see what is what on Long Lake. Numbers were very low, drove to TumTum and had a look-see, again numbers of ducks and geese were low unless you want to shoot coots.
Like I said in anther thread we did well in Potholes (23 Nov), but to get 11 we stayed from sun up to sun down. Talked with neighbor who hunts the Pend Oreille River they all limited out, other friend hit the Pend Oreille River with a group of guys and they all had shooting but by no means did they limit out. Both groups saw ducks and geese flying in large groups but none of the big flocks were interested in setting down.

I hunt South of Cheney and Fishtrap, in 10 trips this year my best day has been 3.  They have been pretty few and far between.  The sunday prior to Thanksgiving had the most fly overs with about 20 birds, only 4 decoyed in.  I am sure part of it is me and my crappy calling, but the numbers have not been what they have been in the past.  I hunted the same area's for the last 14 years
