Sig P320

I just read where the State has banned Sig P 320’s from all of its training facilities due to its ability to discharge a round without a trigger pull. Of course Sig denies it, stating that the firearm is completely safe. At first I thought maybe it was unfamiliarity with the pistol by a couple of people, but then I met a former Vet at the Army museum in DC two weeks ago. We got to talking about some firearms on display and eventually on to personal firearms. Without mentioning the situation here in Wa. State he mentioned how the military had numerous AD’s as well with their Sigs. That got me to rethinking the situation, as they are unrelated by organization but identical in malfunctioning. Anybody else hear of similarities or thoughts on the P 320?

There's so much to this it's impossible to type it all out...
Of the hundred's of thousands of 320s in circulation there's been very few mechanical failure discharges....more often than not it's a booger picker issue...
But there is also some quality control issues with certain parts...that under the right circumstances could possibly lead to internal failure. Unfortunately Sigs response to all the concerns has been less than stellar....

The CJTCs ban is extreme and a complete knee jerk reaction... especially since the 320 is the predominant weapon in service for allot of Wa Leo's...
There's been more documented NDs with Glocks.....but those haven't been banned..

There is at least one agency in our state that is pulling them and moving to a different manufacturer.

Are the issues with standard P320 models (no manual thumb safety), the P320 M17/M18 (with manual thumb safety) or both?

If the guy I talked to was correct then that would be the military version. I don’t know about the various police agencies as they purchase department specific models. I would think if true it would be any model. I only own a P365sas, which is a great shooting little pistol. I was never an Sig fan until I bought it. I would think there are some P320 owners on here which is why I started this thread. I don’t know much about the P320 and don’t really have enough knowledge on its potential issues. Of course the reporters only know that it’s black, and it’s a gun so it’s bad.

Sadly the justification for that was an incident thought to be the guns fault but ended up being proven as a gear issue...
So they'll piss away 500k switching platforms for no reason.

What! You mean the media didn't report an attention grabbing headline with an article on the false assumption of the firearm discharging on its own with no external causes? Surely the media is never wrong on their reporting.

It’s happened and several times it’s been on video.

The military demanded a manual safety after testing for a reason.

At some point unless state training facility changes its course all agencies will have to switch.

Ran a P229 DAK with no safety, two p320’s that have seen a lot of rounds and a lot of abuse, as well as two p365’s. Never had an issue/mlafunction/safety concern with any of the above. Maintain positive control of your weapon and follow the 4 basic firearm safety rules and you’ll probably be fine. A lot of 870’s that have rode around in military vehicles and patrol vehicles will discharge if dropped correctly with the safety on.

I’ve got a P320 X5 legion and as much as I love the way it shoots, I stopped and won’t use as a concealed carry anymore after reading a lot of reports and watching several videos. It’s still a range toy I enjoy shooting. However there’s enough evidence and reports from people with a lot more firearms training and experience than I have where the gun has had an AD (many of those when it’s been holstered) to make me not want to risk it.

Learned long ago no mechanical safety is 100%.
Used to get a kick out of showing the new guys in the unit to never trust the safety on our M16's we had in the 70's and 80's.
Would load it with blanks and hold it upright and slam the butt down on the floor hard.
They were surprised in how many would fire a round.
These were the versions before they came out with the 3 round burst versions.
