Boundary Waters walleye trip
« on: July 17, 2025, 06:05:16 PM »
My buddy and I just did a canoe trip in the boundary waters of northern Minnesota. It was so cool. Here’s a video he made.

Excellent video and fishing trip. I've fished walleye in the Columbia near Portland, OR with a guide. He said that he had clients who came out from the upper Midwest every year in order to catch larger walleye (the theory presented claimed that with colder conditions, the fish were smaller).......one of the fish in this video was WAY bigger than anything that I saw.

Man those walleyes are pretty. Completely different than the washed out color we see here. The Boundary Waters is truly an amazing place.

Awesome. I can’t watch the video but I went last year in September. Such an amazing experience. Planning another trip next year,  but earlier in the year. Maybe mid July. How were the bugs? That’s my biggest concern, although I’m not sure it should be.

The bugs were not too bad until about 9pm when the wind died down…. Then, the mosquitoes came out in biblical numbers! We had the bug shelter and had all exposed skin covered. The day we tried “shed hunting” the horse flies were very intense. I’ve heard 2nd 1/2 of August the bugs start to thin out

Thanks.

Talking about maybe taking my nephews next summer early August. They have a 2 week window where there are no sports things going on.

I can verify there are almost 0 bugs in early September.
