These wolves will not leave the road! These two went right past a set I had on a side skid trail (30 yards up the trail). I’m going to make a very discrete double 850s (8.5” jaw spread) scent post set tomorrow just off the maintained edge of the forest service road on a drag headed over the steep edge into timber.

I had fresh wolf tracks at one of my bobcat cubbies I got a skunk in this week. So today I dropped a dirt hole set in with a wolf gland lure and a bait hole. Added a pic of the trail going into the timber and then the set.

Had a bobcat and trap stolen today. Someone with dogs took it. Fresh snow made their tracks on the rd in front of my set pretty obvious. Boot tracks all over along with dog tracks. All leading up to my catch circle. They could’ve at least left the trap.

Damn that sucks. Having to use cage traps here in Washington they are even more obvious, it’s a huge win each trap check just not getting them stolen. Man I hate people. Sorry to hear this is happening and can only hope karma catches up to this POS.

Without dogs they’d of never found this set, that’s the hard part in Idaho. When you get a hound guy who’s willing to steal stuff your entire line is toast. Time to switch to snares…

Sorry to hear, unfortunately every group has some bad apples. Too bad you didn’t have a trail cam watching that bait. The problem I see is very likely whomever the thief is will likely be working that area again! Your only real answer if you want to keep trapping in that area is to figure out who the thief is and give your info to F&G.

Even here you have so many people walking their dogs behind gates and way up in areas that it’s almost impossible to get away from them . I now earth anchor or lag bolt every cage so that it takes a cut off wheel or bolt cutters to take a cage

Knock on wood saying it but I never lost a trap there when I trapped with my dad. I always cabled them to a tree and put a stake in the inside middle of them to stop from tipping and didn't have an issue. My dad past in 2021, my wife and I last year went to a spot on his line I figured he prob still had traps on and sure enough we picked them up. They sat in the woods over 4 years without an issue. The woods in Idaho are crawling with people, an average Saturday I see three or four other trappers and just as many hound guys. Idaho is an awesome place but reality its pretty small and everyone that moves here comes for the same reason. Remote WA, not so much... Most spots I trap cats there really is zero reason for someone to walk. Too thick for big game hunting generally.
