« on: July 09, 2009, 09:41:53 AM »
Has anyone had any luck, or seen bear sign in the upper Wynoochee Valley, above Wynoochee Lake?

I have picked a lot of blueberries up there, should be a bear or two......

There's bear up there for sure. I used to hunt quite a bit up past the old grisdale camp. If you head back towards Spider lake, there's some good country. Once you get up high there are some really nice berry patches. It's steep country but there in there, there's also some monster blacktails running around those hills.

I hunted deer there last year and saw a bit of bear sign, there were a lot of people during deer season.

Our friend went picking berries up there and a he jumped a huge black bear. stood up on his haunches and then our friend pulled a pistol on him. the bear got down and  walked away. He said he was kinda spooked the rest of the day.

Like everybody else stated, there is a lot of pressure up there.  If you get off of the roads and do some hiking, you can get into areas where people cant drive.  There are still a few good spots up there.  There is also a guy that is "supposedly" illegally guiding bear hunts up there.  I have ran into him and he is an absolute jerk.  But I would wait until a little later in season to start hunting up there ue to the pressure.

It used to be a fairly quiet area with maybe a guy or 2 in the at any given time............ UNTIL fishing and hunting news did an article and printed a map several years ago. The next weekend I counted something like 22 trucks.   :bash: I haven't been back very many times since.

My boss said the same thing. He and his father used to be up there all alone until the maps and article came out. Apparently the article told them exactly where to go including road numbers. :bash:
