Well I will start out by saying that I love my F-350 crew but man what a piece of crap for off roading.  too much torque and too heavy can't even go up cravel anything with an incline without using four wheel drive and if it muddy or snowy forget it.  It will tow a house and sure can haul wood though.  Side note,  don't ever buy a crew cab because you always get stuck driving everywhere.

I had a '97 F350 Crew Cab 4x4, Powerstroke. Much of the battle with the bigger trucks is tires. A good mud terrain tire works well. But the biggest mistake people make when traveling off road with a truck like this, is tire pressure. The 60+ psi street pressure makes the tires as hard as a rock and reduce the footprint of the tire. I used to drop mine down to about 35psi and it would go anywhere. Especially in the snow.  :twocents:

the crappy part about tires on the diesels is they wear fast because of the weight.  So you either buy mud tires every 30,000 miles or a street or all terrain and get 50 or sixty thousand.  I'm too cheap to buy tires that often.  Thats why I have my mountain goat, 87' Nissan long box.  It went through all three of us brothers has 270,000 miles, three sixteen year olds worth of hard miles and is still running strong.  I love that truck more than my wife :chuckle:

That's why you better not sell the Nissan.  That thing is family. :)

I had a 76 VW Rabbit in college - doors didn't lock and you had to carry everything with you when you went hunting.  Looked awesome when 4 guys and 2 dogs went bird hunting.  I also borrowed an old VW Bug when mine broke.  I wouldn't start right, but it was fine to compression start, so we alway parked on a hill and rolled down it to get going again.

I generally hunt in an old F250 (rough ride but happens to be what I own) but go over the pass a couple of times a week in my Subaru Forester.  I stop to hunt a couple of places on the way home sometimes in Sept when there is enough light.  I think it would be awesome to strap a deer to the top of that thing...:)
