I have learned over the years now, just nice and slow and steady and you will get to where you want to go. And you will have enjoyed it a heck of a lot more

Fred - I am glad you found out now - much better than some of the alternatives.  Hope it all comes out for the best.

Well those elk should ask themselves if they are in shape to get away ;)

I work out everyday, either doing P90X and P90X+. Also ride do 80 minute bike rides a couple times a week time permitting. These are about 20-25 miles. So I feel pretty good as far as season goes. Now I just need a few days off to do a little scouting since I am in the middle of working 17 out of 20 days.

Just got back from dall sheep scouting trip back home. Blew back 12 miles, gained 3500' elevation in 4 hours...all trail miles though. Then back out in same day, weather got crappy and visibility shrank to nada. I figure if I am in shape for Elk I should be in decent shape for sheep, although my past excursions while living in AK taught me that no matter how good of shape your in it's not good enough. Good luck to all in the early season, enjoy the views.

the only way to train for steep rough country with a heavy pack is to train in steep rough country with a heavy pack. to me it seems like three days with a pack in the mountains does more for me than 3 months of cardio and weights at home. :twocents:

hey machias  , what does all that stuff mean?   ( i know it cant be good)

I might have a blockage or maybe even a little worse then that, I might even have a little dead tissue on my heart.  I should know something better in a few days.

Fred, I just got stent #3 June 30.  All noninvasive tests were perfect - just like when I got #1 and #2.  Strongly recommend you at least consider very forcefully tell your cardiologist "I want an angiogram".  At your age and activity, odds are you have a genetic predisposition going against you.  I got sent home from the ER in December and April w/o any interventions - because based on a 2 y.o. angiogram, it was presumed I was experiencing angina from a small diseased vessel that was too small to treat anyway.

Finally got forceful in June, and flat-out demanded an angiogram for my peace of mind.  As a result, I got a high probability widowmaker (proximal LAD, 60% mortality rate once blocked) addressed before I got to find out if I could draw 2 out of 5 (and most of those guys have significant damage even though they survive).

Bottom line, if you are relatively young (you are) and at least normal fitness (I presume), and you are showing any cardiac abnormalities - you should want them to get in and do the stenting or bypass before you have a severe heart attack, when your chances for the best possible outcome are most likely to result.

Unless you are insistent that it is what you want, and need, to have any peace of mind, the 1:1000 mortality rate for a routine angiogram is high enough that cardiologists - or at least their malpractice insurers - are unlikely to recommend an angiogram w/o evidence of a significant heart attack,  unless the patient is insisting.

Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss further.

Sorry for the thread jack.

I have been working out as much as I can. Droped about 15 pounds so far.  I am a little nervous about my hunt in Utah. We the unit is at 6,000' to 8,000' in elevation. I don't want to look like a slug up there. How do to train to get use to elevation?

Get a snorkel and breathe through it when walking or running on a treadmill.
