Would this be a legit long-term first time bow?

I don't see why not. As long as everything is in proper working order when you buy it.

I agree, for a starter bow it will work just fine! I like the short light weight bows. It makes it easier on your forarm and crawling around in the brush.

It will certainly work for a while, but don't ever shoot one of the big names. They will spoil you and you will want one. I would suggest to keep looking. sportsmans or what ever they are called down in lacey has a couple bowtech on clearance for almost 50% off. I think that takes them down to $400. ebay is another good option. That's my opinion anyhow.

my partner had a parker and it was the quietest bow  i ever heard shot. i was surprised when he got rid of it for a mathews that wasnt anywhere near as quiet and twice the price. that parker will kill anything you want it to.if money is tight that bow is a great first bow.

I bought my bow off CL and am very happy. If they're impatient, and wont let you try before you buy, then run the other way.  My guy let me take as long as I want and even met with me twice to shoot it before I bought.

look for brace hieght greater than seven inches and don't get hung up on ibo speeds , hoyt makes some pretty for giving bows , limit your shot distance and you'll have the time of your life you'll be hooked.good luck

My friend just bought a Monster, but he had that same Parker for about 14 years and that thing still shoots awesome. I was surprised how good it shot. He gave it to his step dad or I would have got it for a back up my self. I say go take a look and make sure it all in working order if so, take it home you will not be disapointed.
