was wondering if anyone knew good area within 50 miles of the tri cities area to hunt coyotes or bobcats, and what are the chances of getting one with a shotgun?

Shotguns work great out to about 40 yards, with BB's or #4 buckshot. But in more open areas like you'll be hunting around Pasco, a rifle would give you a lot more opportunities. Even a relatively inexpensive 22 magnum would give you more range than a shotgun. I'm not much help on areas close to Pasco although I believe there are some public areas owned or managed by the Corps of Engineers. So you might check into that. Also if you can order a couple of the DNR Public Land Maps they will be a great help in finding public lands to hunt. Also, there is the "Go Hunt" GIS (Geographic Information System) available on the WDFW site. It might be the most helpful thing of all:

I use a 12ga to 100 yards with buckshot and deaddog choketube but a centerfire rifle will be much more usefull and yes I know of quite a few places within 50 miles of dry*censored*es for dogs. I dont share to many places because they will be over hunted, I hit my favorite places no more than once every 2-3 weeks at most, usualy longer. Hunt the public land, theres dogs on all of it. Get out drive around and look for ag land that has hunting by permission, ask. It takes time and lots of gas money to search out good dog land to hunt, so most, like myself arnt in to much of a hurry to tell others about what they find. Good luck in your search and dog hunting. Ill tell you what, go towards Walla Walla, take a left on Dodd rd, its where TYSON beef is at now, follow it back behind the simplot land, all of what you see is open to hunt, plenty of dog, Ive shot my largest dog there. Oh yea, it is shotgun, bow, muzzy only land.

Hunting at night with a red lense can make some of those call shy dogs and cats quite a bit easier to call in and normally they will come into what I consider my shotgun range which is 50 to 75 yards. I use 00 buck and Hevi-Shot's Dead Coyote rounds. Careful at night you make sure what has responded into your call. I have had deer and equines come into calls at night.

You can drive 50 miles or less in any direction from here and run into coyotes. You will be pleased to find out that once you get out and about, there is land everywhere. Good luck.
