4 Blue Grouse Today
« on: September 12, 2009, 08:27:33 PM »
So I went out looking for grouse this afternoon for a couple hours. Found some blues on Weyerhaeuser ground at just under 2000 feet elevation and ended up with four.

Couple pics:

good work bob.

Thanks. Man they were good eating. The wife cooked 'em up for dinner tonight.

I did get a couple yesterday too:

nice, hopefully i'll find some soon.  was gonna try today but got up to the area i was planning on walking in at, and there was a scary looking van parked at the gate.  figured no big deal(i'm carrying a 12 gauge after all), until some sketchy looking mexican stuck his head out the window and started glaring at me.

i went exploring in capital forest, didn't see any grouse, but did see some mourning doves and bandtailed pigeons.  lot's of bowhunters too.

Yeah I saw some elk hunters driving around today, and just as many guys on ATV's who weren't hunting but just riding around. I don't think anybody's hunting grouse. At least not as far as I could tell. I assume if they're in full camouflage they're not grouse hunters.  :dunno:

Capitol Forest is about the last place I'd go to hunt grouse. Not that there isn't any up there. Just too many people.

yep, i wasn't planning on doing any of that up there, just more or less exploring since i was in the area.  i'll try the spot i was going to hit today in the morning, hopefully the shady folks won't be up there again.

i'm a little clueless right now, being a rookie bird hunter and all.

Funny thing about Cap forest... if you stay away from the ATV trails, I found it to be totally empty during turkey season.

Bobcat took me out grouse hunting yesterday and I managed to get 3 ruffed grouse.  We only saw one blue grouse while driving from one spot to another and the grouse didn't stick around long enough the get out of the truck to get a shot.  I think they are starting to get educated.

Sorry, no pics.  Forgot the camera.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.
