rem 270... let me know what you think
« on: September 22, 2009, 01:40:04 PM »
Ok, I am a die hard rem. model 700 fan, and I am looking into buying a 270.  I have a line on an older model 700 270 cal.  It is in very good cond., has a metal butt plate and leapold optics ( 4x12 or something like that). It is a BDL. Here is the price---$500.00. it will have to be shipped from florida. The chances are I will have to have the safety looked at. Does this sound like a decent deal?  To me it does, it's what I am looking for.

The price sounds right if it is in good working condition. Use caution buying it without seeing it, I would hate for you to buy someone elses headach. A Leupold 4x12 is worth a good chunk of change by its self. If the scope has issues, Leupold will fix it up for you, probably at no cost. Just do your best to make sure that the rifle is in good shape! The .270 cartridge will be a fine choice.:twocents:

I always ask for other peoples opinions on issues I don't know much about, and I already have a rem. model 700 7mm mag BDL

Like c-money said, it's hard when you cant see it or inspect it, does the seller offer any kind of guarantee? The optics are worth some change and also like c-money said you can send them to leupold.. And yes the 270 is a fine cartridge.

:yeah: I would lean toward passing on that deal. I am thinking some where between $300 to $400 for a spotless, very clean used 700 BDL with a bushnell. Some Bushnells are high quality, most are cheap.

If you look around the hunting site clasifides, you can find rem 700 BDL, blued with wood, in good condition for $400.ish. Once in a while one that has scratched up wood and the blueing is worn can be found for $300-$350.

Its a reasonable deal. Like was said before, if you can get assurance that you can return or get a refund do so, but also, the scope is worth some money, and if the gun is what the guy/gal is really selling, its a good deal. Not a once in a life time steal of a deal, but a good gun. You shouldn't be disappointed.

That is a very common gun configuration.
I would prefer finding one locally that I could inspect.

O.k. It's a done deal. Had a gunsmith look it over before I agreed to buy it. Gunsmith said it was in excellent condition. The guy I bought it from has had it for 14 years and has never shot it....been in his gun safe the whole time. He got it from his uncle who bought it new in 1966 and his uncle said he doesn't think he even shot a box of shells  through it. I had him keep the scope because I don't want the scope. Total price $415. I am happy with that and I do believe it to be a fair price.       Thanks for all of your opinions.     Devin
