I just bought a pair of Meindl Alaskans.  I won't ever try Vasque since they completely fell apart on me after a year.  I looked at the Lowa's and Kenetreks but I didn't like either enough to pass up $90 worth of cabelas coupons plus cabelas points, so I went with the Meindl.  I have only broke them in on some short hikes, but am really impressed with their quality and comfort.

I will second Nick's Boots in Spokane.  I have a pair of hikers that have held up great through some rough use.  They are going on 5 years old and will go in this winter for a little repair and reconditioning, but they are super comfortable.

I like Whites as a work boot, but not for a hiker.  I had a hand me down pair that had been used by a cement finisher for 12 years and it lasted me another 6 doing construction work while I was in high school and college, with one resoling job while I owned them.  He resoled them once.

Danner Pronghorn 400 thin. 5 year and looking like this is the last season. I am bad at keeping the leather oiled. Great boot, I will for sure get another pair.

European built boots for me...I currently use the Kenetrek Mountain Extreme's and love them.  I'm one of the guys that have tried Danner's and hated every pair. Lots of squeeks and leather that streched out and fell apart in one season?  The last pair I owned was the Pronghorn's, they might be ok for some styles of hunting but they fell apart in one season for me?

Any of these boots are top notch:
-Kenetrek
-Lowa
-Hanwag (If you've got the $$$, get these coupled with Lathrop & Sons custom insoles)
-Scarpa
-Meindl

Those insoles look interesting.  I'd like to find some for my Kenetreks, something for the ball of my foot...

I cant believe no one has mentioned anything about Asolo's. By far and away the best boot I've ever worn. My hunting buddies wore Danners as well until they saw my pair of Asolos last through 4 sheep hunts. Las hunt I went on all 4 of us were wearing Asolo's. I really like the Asolo Alpinist. Great boot...light, great support, water tight and wear like iron.

Hubby has Irish Setters....his brother swears by Rocky...and I bought Lacrosse because they fit reasonably well and were on sale.  I hate finding shoes I have really narrow feet and really high arches...I rarely find any shoes that actually have enough support.  That said these boots are pretty comfy I need to add another arch support to them the one I put in is just not enough  :bash: :bash:.....

I use these three boots Meindl, Whites "Smoke Jumper", Danner "canadian"

I'd like to try the Kenetrek and Lowa one day, but I've got no complaints from what I currently use.

Have worn Danner Pronghorns for years and haven't leaked once.  Haven't tried many others but have had very good luck with these.  Light and comfy for me.  Had Rocky Cornstalkers before that.  Worked pretty good but began to squeak real bad on every step.
