I typically seem to get them into about 35 yards, where they will circle on me.  I like them out at 100 or so yards though, when they stop and stare, makes it easier for a shot then one circling.  The closest I've had was one sniffing my boot, also near Royal City about 10 yrs ago, I called it in from about 500 yards, and could have shot it at 100 or so, but decided to just sit still and see how far it would come.  It walked right to my foot, sniffed it, growled, then I proceded to miss it with my 223, after a few 4 letter words were yelled.

Just ordered 150 rds of 50 gr V-Max for my .223 and 25 rds for 3" Federal Premium nickel plated #4 buck for my Mossberg... now, I'm ready!
