In my opinion.   This person not only needs to lose hunting privileges.  But also removed from the Master Hunter program.  As well as having is Hunter Instructor credentials revoked to never be given back.  A person that hunts like that does not to teaching our younger generation his type of Hunting Ethics.  His hunting partner needs to lose his privilege for a couple years as well.  Just for being willing to cover it up by walking away.

As far as the animal goes.  It should have been given to a food bank.  The meat would go a long way, feeding the hungry.

Wounder what area this guy is from. I have a couple youngsters that need to go threw hunters ed soon. Hope he was not from Moses Lake. Very sad that you had him pegged, and the guy was let go. Damn shame. So I guess AHE and hunters ed teachers words are more powerful than an average hunter. That is to bad! :bdid:

First off the MH program was revamped this summer, they changed it from a master hunter card to a master hunter permit, because under state law they can revoke a permit without going through the courts. So I guarentee that he lost his MH status. I would also be willing to bet that he lost his HE credentials as well. He definatly deserves it. Now the game warden only cutting off the head, there are multiple factors against him here. The first being time, he would have to drive all the way to Cle Elum to get it to a proccesor, as well as the time it would take to drag it out. I personally would rather see him responding to ather calls then wasting time trying to save some meat. However if asked I would see no reason to not allow a hunter with a un-notched tag get use from the carcass. Cutting the head off was done to preserve evidence, he will now be able to show the jury what it was that he shot. I really wish there was a way to get the low-lifes out of the MH program, because I feel like it makes me less credable to carry that status!!

Hope that the Officer has a case to nail the guy. He should not have tried to peg someone els for the illeagle kill. Hope it ends well for honest hunters, and 10 points for turning in a poacher!

WTF!!!  I have run into way to many master hunters that have their heads up their asses.....I do know a couple of good ones, but others I have caught trespassing, cutting cross country in places where your not supposed to, and doing crap like what this thread is about.  Damn morons......has anyone else here run into MHs that are total dumb asses or have I just had bad luck?

I'm sure the accused will have his name revealed in due time.

Illegal spike killing is no different then when we went to spike only.  Lots of branch antlered bulls killed.  Every one I saw had the head cut off by a gamie.  First off the bottom line is that it is the hunters responsibility to ensure the animal was legal regardless of distance or any other reason.  He should have taken care of the animal and take the lumps/citation he deserved.  Cops would not be involved in the interviewing and investigation of this case other then maybe the initial call.  A gamie had to have handled it.  The gamie can not make anyone pack out a animal, and he dang sure did not have time to do it.  I would rather have him out working then packing an elk out all day long.  As far as the MH and instructor issue goes I think he should and probably will lose both of those.
I got stopped by a WSP Trooper this year (speeding) with a quartered out elk in the back of the truck.  He really ran me through the wringer on checking it out and how it was supposed to be tagged and other things.  Pretty much forgot about the speeding after seeing the elk foot sticking out.  He did not know the law specifically, but he knew enough to ask questions and call a gamie.  It took about 30 minutes and he then said "It looks like you are doing everything on the up and up, congratulations have a nice day sorry it took so long ".  I thanked him for checking and told him to continue to keep checking hunters and making sure they are legal.  We need more non gamie cops checking hunters.  Oh yeah he gave me a warning for speeding and another violation.  Had he given me a ticket you would not see me wanking about it as yes I was speeding and had the illegal equipment in use.

Sad, what  a waste. There will be more animals left on hillsides with the true spike rule.

If this individual is convicted he will be removed from the Master Hunter program for life.  That is a 100% certainty.  The Master Hunter program has a zero tolerance policy.

If convicted he will be cited and fined, and may lose hunting equipment used.

If convicted he will likely be disbarred from being an accredited Hunter Education instructor as well.

Enforcement is aware of this; let's allow them to do their job and hope they can convict him if he is indeed guilty.

was it a cop or a game warden? you said cop. i don't see that a cop would even touch the animal without first calling wdfw.

i have a hard time with the fact they cut the head off and left the rest lay. never heard of that happening before.

If he does go to court then it is public record and then you can post his name and charge he is being accused of. So f anyone sees charges to people let us know. Then it is not slander!!

The game warden cannot force someone to pack out an illegally killed elk.  However, he can give him the option of salvaging the carcass and turning it over to the officer, or be charged with wastage once the carcass sours.

I too prefer to see them out checking hunters and responding to violation calls, to salvaging carcasses.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

All the Enforcement Officer can do is make his case.  It is up to the Prosecuting Attorney to get the conviction.  Unfortunately game violation convictions are not a high priority with them.

In my opinion, I think that is mainly due to them being uninformed.  I think when they become more informed there will be more conviction with stiffer fines and penalties.
