Teachermans season in the NE corner.
« on: November 25, 2009, 09:26:43 AM »
Little up date, I haven't been on very much this hunting season, been to busy hunting. We started off with a nice little 20" 4x muley back in the Sept bow season, Rifle season was good to us we got several nice bucks, a 2x2, 3x4, and a 5x5. The bow season has been going in spurts but we have taken one really nice 4x4. I have a couple pics, not much but I'm still holding out for that 170 plus animal. I messed up on a really nice 150 class whitetail last week. I even let an arrow fly. On my way into my stand I came up on around 5 deer on the hill above me, one was this really nice WT. I had an arrow nocked and I quickly ranged the buck at 33 yards, put my 30 yard pin on his vitals and let the arrow fly. It nocked him off of his feet and he slid down the hill to within 15 yards of me and locked up in some down timbers. He struggled for a moment and stopped. I thought he was dead so I didn't put another arrow in him. Within less than a minute he pops back up on his feet and takes off up the hill after his does.  :dunno: I was stunned to say the least. I lost sight of him in the timber but I could see his does about 150 yards up the hill milling around. He never made it to them so I pulled out until morning. I went back expecting to find him piled up on the steep hillside but I looked for over 6 hours with no blood  :bash: Never found him. The up hill shot really messed me up, horizontally it was only like a 15 yard shot. The next day my buddy see's this deer in my drvie way. I got nothing but meat, and hit him really hi. I'm hoping that all I did was make an old buck even smarter. :dunno: Well I will let everyone know when I shoot my 150  class or bigger buck this year and yes I will take lots of pics of him. The couple pics I put up are from rifle season.

If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

With all the arrow parts found in animals (see surprises in my elk post), they seem to be pretty tough.  Good luck with your late archery.

Missed this thread until now.

You might PM a fella named LongTat ... believe he will oblige you.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
